The Appleseed Cast is definitely one of the most underrated of the 1.5 Wave emo bands. See this veteran Kansas crew at Irving Plaza (with Mewithoutyou and Hop Along) and be prepared for them to sling some serious goodness your way. I’ve never seen them do a bad show. In summation, the following is one of my favorite songs…. of ALL TIME.

Scotland’s The Twilight Sad play Rough Trade. They get climactic. I’m sure Scotland has produced plenty of bad bands over the years but I can’t name one. I really can’t. That country slings nothing but the hits.

Rat Fist = No Age’s Randy Randall + Pissed Jeans’s Sean McGuiness. And the word “Jeans’s” just doesn’t look right. But I think they changed the grammar rules on how you deal with the possessive ‘S’ since I last cracked open a book. Anyway, these two punks play Death by Audio (and Friday at Palisades). You should go. And I should mind my own business’s.

Other notable shows = Big Ups at The Studio at Webster Hall + Beach Slang at Asbury Lanes + Connan Mockasin at Baby’s All Right + Il Sogno Del Marinaio (with Mike Watt) at Mercury Lounge

Frankie Cosmos plays delightful indiepop. I’m glad they are a band. And I just saw Porches and they reminded me of early Sea & Cake. That’s a compliment. Guess what? Both Frankie Cosmos and Porches play Baby’s All Right (and tomorrow too) because BABY’S ALL RIGHT IS TURNING 1.

Har Mar Superstar + The Pizza Underground play Knitting Factory. Hold up. Hold up. Hold up. You do know that The Pizza Underground is just fucking around, right? OK. Cool. Just making sure.

J Mascis (of The Little Dinosaurs) plays Bowery Ballroom. That dude is just totally ripping off Ovlov.

Jimmy Eat World play The Capitol Theatre because their album “Futures” is turning 10. You know what’s not a bad album? “Futures” by Jimmy Eat World. Here’s my favorite song from that record. What’s yours? Same one? Neat. Let’s hang out. I like your taste in 10-year-old albums.

Other notable shows = Wampire at Baby’s All Right + Nicholas Nicholas at Cameo + Germans at Glasslands + Minus the Bear at Gramercy Theatre + Roses at Mercury Lounge + Com Truise at Music Hall of Williamsburg + Dope Body/Rat Fist/Bambara at Palisades + Oneida at Secret Project Robot

Xiu Xiu play Glasslands. I don’t think this band has played these parts in quite some time. Sometimes when I’m at the crowded gym I like to sing the following song to myself in the mirror. I get real close and sing it real quiet. People clear out pretty fast. Oh, well. More workout space for me.

Bill Cosby plays two shows at The Paramount. I wish I could make one of them. But I already have my ticket to see him at Carnegie Hall on 11/8. I’m excited. He’s one of my heroes. Speaking of heroes, I wonder if he really does hide hoagie sandwiches up his fireplace to try and trick his wife, Camille. I bet he does. Also. Cockroach really should have let Theo have the Soul Train ticket.

Icelandic (by way of Australia) composer Ben Frost and the celestial being disguised as human Julianna Barwick play The Wick tonight. Things are going to get real ethereal real fast.

Other notable shows = Amy Schumer at The Capitol Theatre + Pond at Rough Trade + Sam Amidon at Music Hall of Williamsburg + Porches and Frankie Cosmos at Baby’s All Right

Radiator Hospital (click that) + Allison Crutchfield (click that) + Girlpool (click that) play Silent Barn and I really like all three. Damn. I don’t know who should get the video treatment. How about all three? I can do whatever I want. I’m punk rock and it’s my music blob. Click that. Click that. Click that.

Zola Jesus plays Webster Hall. Her new album is going to make her huge. For serious. Have you heard any of it? You’re going to want to take a listen. She’s figured it out.

Olga Bell plays MoMA PS1. Expect a sublime time but settle for musical transcendence.

Other notable shows = what? Those three I mentioned above aren’t good enough for you?
