Thursday - November 20th, 2014 A.D.
We Are Scientists (they tweet good tweets) and TEEN and Cookies (yum) play Brooklyn Bowl. All three of those bands make nice sounds. I have yet to actually bowl a game at Brooklyn Bowl. I’m not really financially ready right now.
Delicate Steve play Mercury Lounge. It’s a “Butterfly” thing. You wouldn’t understand. Except……. unless……... you DO……. you know, mannnnnn?.......... you KNOW?
Bellows play Shea Stadium. I just wrote about this good new band and I would really like it if you read it because goddamn it what the hell did I write it for then? It’s like I already know Bellows are good.
Other notable shows = DJ Pictureplane and Teengirl Fantasy at Palisades + Mykki Blanco at The Jewish Museum + Phosphorescent at Knitting Factory + Javelin at Kipling (free) + JD Samson at Friends and Lovers (also free) + Brooklyn Youth Chorus w/ Bryce Dessner and Richard Reed Parry at BAM + Kid Millions at (le) poisson rouge
Friday - November 21st, 2014 A.D.
The Brooklyn Youth Chorus and Bryce Dessner of The National and Richard Reed Parry of Arcade Fire team up to do something most likely big and euphoric that swells with awesome at BAM tonight. They did all that yesterday too. Good thing you’re not reading this in real time or you totally would’ve missed it. They also do it tomorrow and if you’re reading this in the future that may already be in the past. This is one tricked out circle game.
ASTR and Ghost Beach and DJ Body Language play Knitting Factory’s Knitball (still get it) tonight (that’s the early show - the late show is Ski Lodge and the dude from “Pete & Pete” - a show many fondly remember and I have never seen). Here’s a good electric ASTR jam that’s already been out for a bit but I don’t care. New can be extremely overrated.
Jon Hopkins and Joakim and JDH & Dave P get FIXED at Output tonight. This rager goes late into the dark and chilly night. So come dance and sweat to warm sounds under bright lights - where everything is illuminated and anything is possible.
Ryan Hemsworth plays Rough Trade. I don’t know who that is but remember what I said earlier: NEVER TRUST A SINGER SONGWRITER NAMED RYAN.
PLACEHOLDER FOR RYAN HEMSWORTH SONG TO BE POSTED AT PERHAPS A LATER DATE YOU NEVER KNOW
Saturday - November 22nd, 2014 A.D.
Obits play Brooklyn Night Bazaar. These old ass Brooklyn punks bring the heat it every single time. The young aren’t the only ones.
Andrew W.K. plays Knitting Factory. And by this I mean he’s actually playing rock ‘n roll party songs on stage for you. This isn’t a pep talk or motivational lecture and I’m pretty sure a grand piano will not make an appearance this time. Also, remember when I went to a party at Andrew W.K.’s house?
With my naked eye I saw all the falling rain coming down on me. With my naked eye I saw it all if I said it all I could see. And it feeeeeeeels. Alriiiiiight. And it feeeeeeeels. Alriiiiiight. Luscious Jackson play The Bell House. They sang that song I was just singing while I was typing and you may now listen to it if you want.
We Were Promised Jetpacks and The Twilight Sad play Webster Hall. They are both from Scotland. FACT. No Scottish band has ever sucked. All bands from Scotland are always good. FACT. Here’s an oldie (what was 2009 even LIKE, man?) but a real goodie.
Couch Slut play The Acheron. I am terrified of Couch Slut.
Hannibal Buress plays Knitting Factory - the real space - not those free front bar shows he was doing every week until he could stop because he got famous.
Other notable shows = Jonah Matranga and J. Robbins (Jawbox) and Doris Cellar (Freelance Whales) at Mercury Lounge + Brooklyn Youth Chorus w/ Bryce Dessner and Richard Reed Parry at BAM + Ryan Adams at Hammerstein
That's it. Thanks for hanging again this week. It's always a chill time.
