Welp. It's August already.

Damn. Dog these days.

At least there are some good shows going on this week….

….or ARE there??????

(yes there really are)

Let's get into the goodness!

#blob #blobbing

Monday - August 1, 2016 A.D.

Garbage plays Central Park Summerstage. As of this writing the forecast calls for rain that means frontwoman Shirley Manson should be in a real good mood. This is a good joke.

(Kristin Control aka Dee Dee from Dum Dum Girls opens, in summation, she's good!)

Nice As Fuck is dope as hell. So dope, the band (Jenny Lewis + Erika Spring + Tennessee Thomas) decided to play not one but TWO shows at Bowery Ballroom tonight (and this after playing Sunday at Rough Trade). Damn that's double dope.

Other notable Monday shows = Beirut at The Capitol Theater (more on them in a minute)

Tuesday - August 2, 2016 A.D.

Toro y Moi is showing his new live documentary “Live From Trona" at House of Vans today. He might play and/or DJ the thing too. I don't know. If you're at all interested you should just RSVP and show up and see what happens. Since it's free the stakes aren't that high here.

Beirut plays Prospect Park Bandshell and I can almost hear the glockenspiels warming up from here. Please note: this isn't one of the free Prospect Park shows. Sorry. I didn't do it. I just blob here. In summation, this is still my favorite Beirut song even though it's now a million years old.

Pretty in Pink" is a pretty good movie. Poor Ducky. Not only does he not get the girl but he will someday have to star in “2 and a Half Bros." Anywho, you can go see this flick on a roof for free tonight at Solar One and, even better, Beverly will play some songs before it starts. That's a good band right there.

The Last Shadow Puppets (featuring members of Arctic Monkeys / Simian Mobile Disco / tickets still available) play Terminal 5. Please enjoy this profile I wrote on this band for this music blob a mere 8 years ago. I think I really nailed their hot up-and-coming sound. Don't U?

Other notable Tuesday shows = El Perro Del Mar at The McKittrick Hotel + Langhorne Slim at Brooklyn Bowl

Wednesday - August 3, 2016 A.D.

Shopping is a good band. The London post _____ punks play Baby's All Right. Read this and then trust me when I tell you they were one of the best bands I saw at CMJ (RIP) last year... or was it two years ago…. I don't know…. time flies….. Mono No Aware….. dust in the wind, dudes.

Teen Suicide is “a lo fi ambient fever dream" according to myself. The band plays Market Hotel w/ Elvis Depressedly (“a good band with sparse/sad songs" says me) and Nicole Dollanganger (she recently opened for Grimes and "is dope/dark" I tell you all the time).

Other notable Wednesday shows = Erykah Badu at The Amphitheater at Coney Island

Thursday - August 4, 2016 A.D.

Meet Jordan (46), Jonathan (48), Joey (44), Donnie (47) and Danny (47). Together, these fab five youngsters represent one of the hippest and hottest boy bands on the planet: New Kids on the Block! They play Coney Island tonight! OMG! DYING!

Jerry Seinfeld does the old Beacon Theater gig tonight and what's the deal with the English language I mean you drive on a parkway and park on a driveway I mean not Jerry he takes a helicopter everywhere and makes a bajillion dollars in the air on the way over but I mean for the rest of us regular people what's the deal with the parkway driveway thing and the English language what's the deal with that.

Composer Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith plays MoMA's “Summer Thursdays" and it's free w/ museum admission which is now probably $500 or something see link for details if you must but here's the takeaway.... Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith rules.

Also. They're showing “Run Lola Run" and playing the live score in Prospect Park and it's free. MAYBE YOU SHOULD JUST GO TO THIS.

Other notable shows = former Degrassi student Drake plays MSG + B Boys at Sunnyvale

Friday - August 5, 2016 A.D.

Dinosaur Jr. play Rough Trade. Didn't get a ticket? Sorry. Sold-out. Feel the pain. So this doesn't happen again, save them -- using the free “My Rockness" tool we made 4 U -- to your favorite bands list and you'll be reminded the next time they come to town.

M. Ward plays a FREE show in Lincoln Center/Damrosch Park Bandshell w/ Margaret Glaspy. Part of the “Out of Doors" fest.

Speaking of free summer shows…..please love this list we made 4 U.

Experimental Japanese post ____punks Boris play their classic album “Pink" (Happy 10th birthday!) in full at Warsaw and this show should be extremely dope.

Thin Lips (File Under: A Good Band) and Worriers (RIYL: Bands That Are Good) lead a solid lineup at Silent Barn. This show is a benefit for the victims of the Pulse Nightclub shooting.

Fuck guns.

Other notable Friday shows = Pinegrove at WFMU Monty Hall + Izzy True at Shea Stadium
