It is once again time to talk about the good shows happening in NYC this weekend.

Is it the greatest weekend for good shows in NYC since ________A.D.?

It might be, dear Rockness reader, it just might be.

(It's also the NY Comedy Festival which partially explains the famous names sprinkled throughout this really good article.)

Let's get into it.

Thursday - November 12, 2015 A.D.

Nathan For You is the funniest show on television. I howl and I'm not much of a howler normally ("Breaking Bad" didn't make me howl once). The dude behind it, Nathan Fielder (who got really good grades in business school), will be at NYU Skirball Center tonight and why don't I just let them describe the evening. "Host Nathan Fielder appears live and in person to give you a sneak peak of the upcoming season of Nathan For You. The screening will be followed by a Q&A discussion that will include several off-the-cuff jokes by Fielder, who's a mediocre improviser." Please get me into this show. I thank you.

Since we've been talking about comedy so much this week (since this week is NY Comedy Fest we might as well go for it, I guess) Billy Crystal talks with David Steinberg at Town Hall and Billy Crystal is, well, Billy Crystal but I really wanted to use this opportunity to tell you how much I enjoy watching David Steinberg's "Inside Comedy" on the telly box. It's a pretty fantastic show about funny people . Just another genuine program recommendation from your pal at the music blob.

Better talk about something music related before we close this night forever. Beacon play Cameo Gallery and there's two things you need to know about that. One, Beacon is good. I've told you this like three years ago. Two, Cameo Gallery is closing forever very soon and this is one of their last shows. For the complete lineup of who's playing this fine venue's final days peep this list. So long, Cameo old buddy. See you at tha crossroads.

Other notable shows = Alex Bleeker & The Freaks at Brooklyn Bowl + King Khan & BBQ Show at Knitting Factory + Beach Fossils and Sunflower Bean at Stony Brook + Givers at Rough Trade + Future Punx at Shea Stadium + Elysian Fields at The Owl + Dan Friel at Trans-Pecos

Friday - November 13, 2015 A.D.

The dude from The National + The dude from Menomena = EL VY. See the brand new band at Bowery Ballroom tonight (and Saturday at Music Hall of Williamsburg). Think the dude from The National meets the dude from Menomena and your thinking might be on the right track or completely off the rails like this article this week.

Lemonade (you probably already love this dance pop band by now but if don't yet know them please remember the Golden Rule: it is never ever ever too late to get into somebody good) + Teen Commandments (I totally just wrote nice things about this band) lead a solid dance lineup at Cameo tonight. Only five shows left at Cameo. May we someday meet when the roads come together up the way.

Yonatan Gat (ex-Monotonix) is one of the very best shredders around. He and his band LIGHT. IT. UP. on the floor at Palisades tonight. Watch this video and tell me it doesn't compel you to want to go to this. Guess what? You totally can.

And Sarah Silverman plays BAM because…. that's right..NY Comedy Fest.

Other notable shows = Frog Eyes and Leverage Models at Baby's All Right + U.S. Girls at Alphaville + Norm McDonald at Caroline's + Comedy Central Live at Kings Theater + Jerry Paper at Shea Stadium + Dreamcrusher at Silent Barn + Lee Ranaldo at Trans-Pecos

Saturday - November 14, 2015 A.D.

I just saw Dilly Dally destroy at CMJ. They were GOOD. The Toronto alt punks (you can think of a better term if you'd like) are back to play Baby's All Right. I was going to go to this anyway but when I found out LVL UP is also playing I said "what a nice bonus!" and then went back to doing whatever it was I was doing.

The Men (click their name if you like reading three-year-old band profiles) + PC Worship (that profile is only one year old…. getting better) + Wild Moth (only two weeks old WOW!) = Good Band + Good Band + Good Band. The three Good Bands play The Acheron and that means this show qualifies for our coveted Triple Crown rating that doesn't exist on the blob yet but really should. I'll let you know if I can find a designer to whip up a trophy symbol or gold medal illustration or something to put beside this listing.

If solid punk-to-the-emo is what you're after tonight, I totally hear you. Please consider going to see Sorority Noise and Knuckle Puck then. They lead a solid lineup full of that goodness at Webster Hall Marlin Room.

(In the meantime please enjoy blasting this good Knuckle Puck song and be sure to wait for the part that goes "I'm an unlocked door and you're a fucking thief!!!!!" because that's the best part.)

(This song is real chill too.)

Also, it's been twenty-five years since A Tribe Called Quest released "People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm" and all four members will be in attendance (some will DJ, some will perform) at Santos Party House to celebrate that. Will there be a legit A Tribe Called Quest reunion set? Who knows? Somebody probably does. But it ain't me.

UPDATE: they're reuniting and playing together tonight

Other notable shows = EL VY at Music Hall of Williamsburg + Stephin Merritt at City Winery + King Khan & BBQ Show at Knitting Factory + Judd Apatow at Carnegie Hall + Nada Surf and Slothrust at Webster Hall + Trevor Noah at Town Hall + A.C. Newman at The Greene Space + Nobunny at Palisades + Donovan Wolfington and Slingshot Dakota at Aviv

Sunday - November 15, 2015 A.D.

Fuzz (with Ty Segall and no big deal but I've totally heard of him) play Bowery Ballroom with The Men and Walter however I feel the need to mention that this show is sold-out. I apologize. For nothing. If you missed out on getting tickets you should have saved Fuzz to your "My Rockness" account. That's why we built it. 4 U. Don't you see? Everything this music blob does... it does it 4 U.

You can also go see GWAR at Webster Hall. I'm not going to. But you can.

Or, just hang with Norm McDonald at Caroline's. Because he's Canadian.... and this week is the NY Comedy Festival.

Other notable shows = I don't know you figure it out for once + thanks so much for reading this all the way to the end you're the best around and nothing's ever gonna keep you down I hope you remember that
