Blues Control drone it down. - Oh My Rockness

Band We Like

Blues Control drone it down.

December 18, 2007
Blues Control is an instrumental duo (Russ Waterhouse and Lea Cho) from Queens that play intoxicatingly space-y and psych-y retro noise that swirls and rumbles towards electronic rock enlightenment. The band relies on a smattering of dark (very dark) keyboard/piano melodies that are filled in with feedback-heavy guitar fuzz, and other eclectic machine-made sounds.

This is definitely drone-y, and it's also kind of spooky. But it's also kind of fun to hear a band create something so completely different. And if you dig under all of Blues Control's electro-clatter and keyboard-clamor, you can almost pick out a conventional melody. Almost. The band's full-length debut is out now on Holy Mountain (Wooden Shjips, Six Organs of Admittance). Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm crawling back to safety under my covers.
