Let's talk about some good shows this week.

When it's time to blob we will blob hard.

Thursday - September 24, 2015 A.D.

The Jesus and Mary Chain celebrates 30 years of "Psychocandy" at Terminal 5 tonight and tomorrow. That they're playing the same week as Ride is kind of fun but let's not make a big deal about it and make a whole separate blob post or anything that says something like "The Rebirth of Old Shoegaze" and it would be a thinkpiece the gist of which being how old shoegaze bands are back and stuff.

Low is playing Music Hall of Williamsburg and here's the thing about this bandzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Oh, come on. I'm just kidding. I'm just squeezing yer shoes, Low fans! Anyway, Low's music is best described as . . . . . . . . . . . . . :::::.......................................:::::::::....... …………….::::::::::::::.......and then it fades out.

Potty Mouth and Crying and Heliotropes play Shea Stadium. That's three good bands for one low price. I'm not sure how much. I didn't look. But whatever it is, 100% worth it.

Other notable shows = Built to Spill at Bowery Ballroom + Doomtree and Speedy Ortiz at Brooklyn Bowl + TEEN at Elvis Guesthouse + The Airborne Toxic Event at Irving Plaza + The Decemberists at The Capitol Theatre

Friday - September 25, 2015 A.D.

CHVRCHES play a free show at Rough Trade tonight but not really because it's one of those marketing-y "enter to maybe win" contest deals so maybe we should forget I even said anything and also what's your favorite song about half-siblings mine is probably "The Mother We Share" by CHVRCHES. Runner-up: Brady Bunch jam

The Decemberists play Radio City Music Hall and Colin Meloy was meant for the stage he was meant for the curtain he was meant to tread these boards of this much I am certain. A Decemberists reference from 2003. Terrific!

Cold Cave collaborates with Black Asteroid at Verboten and this is what a good band sounds like.

Bob Mould plays City Winery (and tomorrow too) and this is one of the greatest pop rock songs of the last twenty years I'm sure of it so let's just agree to agree.

Other notable shows = CocoRosie at Webster Hall + The Jesus and Mary Chain at Terminal 5 + Ricky Eat Acid at Palisades + Gardens and Villa at Music Hall of Williamsburg + Such Hounds at Matchless + Jackson Browne at Kings Theatre take into Saturday with your sad sad songs, Jackson Browne!

Did you know there are still free shows going on at Riis Park Beach Bazaar even though summer ended a lifetime ago (three days)? It's true. Ask Perfect Pussy and Show Me the Body and Guerilla Toss and Pawns and Ghost Dads when you go down there today if you don't believe me. Those punks will tell you.

Funeral Advantage is on a solid lineup (Bellows + Battle Ave. + Soft Fangs they're all here) at Palisades. Have you listened to the new album yet? You should. It's really good. I've listened to it many many times in the month since it was released. Go ahead and give it a spin. You're gonna like the way it streams. I guarantee it.

Pearl Jam play Central Park - free w/ ticket and also you're not getting a ticket - but more importantly their acclaimed debut album features a picture of the band giving each other a group high five. (Someone named Beyonce opens. And Coldplay. And Ed Sheeran. I've never knowingly heard an Ed Sheeran song.)

Now that's what I call a high five!

But let's stray from such nonsense and get back to business because Iron Chic opens the show at Webster Hall (Marlin Room) and they're quite simply one of the most fun bands in the game to go see.

Other notable shows = FIDLAR at Webster Hall + Darlings (last show) at Shea Stadium + Bob Mould at City Winery + Laurel Halo at Trans-Pecos + Cheap Trick at The Capitol Theatre take us into Sunday, Cheap Trick!

Sunday - September 27, 2015 A.D.

Porches play the final free "summer" (what was four days ago even LIKE, mannn?) at Brooklyn Flea, 50 Kent style. This one starts at 3. Plenty of time to get back in time for your streaming talking picture stories.

Another free show at Riis Park Bazaar to tell you about right quick but that's it this is the last one. The So So Glos + Mannequin Pussy + Big Eyes and friends lead us out from the light as we transition to a life led in shadows, at least until spring (it will come again oh yes it will).

If you want to travel out of the city before the seasonal darkness comes back to try and crush your soul (but you're not gonna let it no way), good news! Lower Dens plays Kingston, NY and I hear it's lovely there this time of year. Get on outta here. Enjoy the world. This isn't a dress rehearsal. We only go around once.

Other notable shows = Bernie Sanders Benefit at Shea Stadium + Infinity Girl at Palisades + They Might Be Giants at Music Hall of Williamsburg + Iron Chic at Asbury Lanes lead us into the night Iron Chic!
