Band We Like: Annabel

Kent, OH's Annabel are current kings of my “Who's This?" game. Do you play the “Who's This?" game too? That's when you put on a band and count the number of passing people who say “Who's this?" while the song's playing. If someone says “Who's this?," the band blasting gets one point and whichever band has the most points at the end of the game wins nothing and everything. Annabel are in first place and it's not really close.

(please note: games can last as long as a day, week, or even year depending on the agreed upon duration you decided with yourself beforehand and also the “Who's This?" game has totally different rules when listening to music alone).

The song that keeps racking up the points is called “Everything" (I'll post it for you in a minute) and it's off Annabel's soon-to-be-released album “Having it All" on the excellent label Tiny Engines (home to: Somos + The Hotelier + Beach Slang + Cayetana + lots and lots of bands I like). I swear that almost every time I play “Everything" in public someone will say “Who's this?" and you and I both know nobody ever asks who it is unless they fucking love it. And what's not to love? Annabel's pretty, punk melodies are perfectly catchy and instantly singable and sometimes things even turn into a shred fest. It's all here, Rockness dear.

The band have been around for a few years now which explains why they sound like they're practiced pros who know what they're doing because they do. You can listen to their earlier efforts on the World Wide Intrasphere but this new album is going to be what puts these guys over the edge, under the top, above the train, and they're gonna ride the goodness all the way to the end (snap) of the line (snap).

They're not going to be "Who's This?" winners for long because pretty soon the people passing are already going to know. This. Is. Annabel.

(you can blast the song now and usually people ask “Who's This" right around the 1:30 mark)
