((Free Cake For Every Creature)) Band Profile and Upcoming New York City Concerts - Oh My Rockness
Free Cake For Every Creature
Written by Patrick McNamara
Philadelphia’s Free Cake for Every Creature are a lo-fi indiepop band led by prolific singer/songwriter/shredder Katie Bennett (she played 76 shows in 2014 - Facebook told me so). These short and super catchy quirk songs will put you in a better mood, even if they’re not exactly slinging life’s good, feel good, stay happy situations. Plenty of pathos come with this sparse jingle-jangle. So consider blasting this band when you want a reason to rejoice in being a little fucked up. It’s cool. We all are.
The band (live, it’s Katie + Francis + Colin + Ian) have recently played shows with Frankie Cosmos + Quarterbacks + Radiator Hospital and I mention this because:
#1) I like all three of those bands
b.) perhaps their names will trigger sound associations
π.) I can finally pull past show info using the new Rockness admin and I'm having a really fun time with it
The mighty fine New Jersey label Double Double Whammy (home to Mitski + LVL UP + Alex G + Porches to cherry pick just a few sweet fruits from that strong tree) recently released Free Cake For Every Creature’s eleven song album “Pretty Good” and its title does not advertise its content falsely. I took the trouble of sourcing it from the World Wide Intrasphere and posting it for your pleasure below (actually, it wasn’t that hard but it’s the thought that #counts). The full album stream is available for one and for all. Consider it Free Cake For Every Creature.
