Written by Patrick McNamara

There are so many good shows to see this month.

Here are 40 super solid ones.

Also, Daft Punk is playing my house (my house) but it's kind of a private thing for robots only so I didn't include it here.

See you out there, lovers!

40 Super Good Shows To See in NYC This April

1. LCD Soundsystem play five shows at brand new venue Brooklyn Steel on April 6th, 7th, 8th, 10th, 11th.

All of these LCD shows sold-out instantly.

If you didn't get tickets please take heart that there will be many more final shows ever in the very near future forever.

*you can try getting tickets here but you might have to refinance something first

2. Operators play Rough Trade on Tuesday, April 4th and Mercury Lounge on Wedneday, April 5th (tickets).

This is Dan Boeckner's other band besides Wolf Parade.

He was also in Divine Fits and Handsome Furs.

Good band. Good band. Good band.

3. Diet Cig play two shows at Baby's All Right on Friday, April 7th (tickets / tickets).

Two shows in one night for Diet Cig, well alright!

Best slop pop band ever, man.

4. Son Volt play Bowery Ballroom on Friday, April 7th (tickets) and Rough Trade on Saturday, April 8th.

Remember when there was debate if Wilco or Son Volt was the better band?

Your uncle Tupelo sure does.

5. Kevin McDonald does a podcast with Mike Myers and We Are Scientists at The Bell House on Saturday, April 8th (tickets).

One of the best sketch shows ever (Kids in the Hall) meets Wayne meets a band whose popularity has placed unreasonable expectations on real scientists everywhere that they too can rock out after hours.

File Under: fun one!

Also, this isn't a Kevin McDonald sketch but who cares because these are the Dave's I know.

6. New Order play Radio City Music Hall on Thursday, April 13th (tickets).

This is the best New Order album. End stop.

(Please voice your vehement disagreements in the comments section this blob has never had.)

7. Francis Lung play Alphaville on Friday, April 14th (tickets).

This is the NYC debut of ex-WU LYF dude (Tom McClung) and his band Francis Lung.

If you go, maybe someday you can impress a stranger or something by saying you did.

Or, they could be like "Who? Why are you talking to me? I'm just trying to enjoy the airplane ride."

One never knows.

8. Terry Malts play Mercury Lounge on Saturday, April 15th (tickets).

It's pretty much unanimous here at Rockness HQ (proud staff of two) that Terry Malts released one of the very best records of 2016 A.D.

You can still listen to it even though it's 2017 A.D. now.

But if you still feel weird about it you can check out their brand new EP. It's from this year so you should be totally safe.

9. The Wedding Present play The Bell House on Saturday, April 15th (tickets).

One of my favorite bands ever, man.

If you somehow missed out on this British band's hard jingle jangle pop goodness that's OK shit happens.

Start with either this album or this album. I love them like they were my own records.

LOST YOUR LOOK ON LIFE? TOO MUCH APPLE PIE.

10. The Decemberists play Brooklyn Steel on Monday, April 17th, Tuesday, April 18th, Wednesday, April 19th.

This band was meant for the stage.

Now if you'll excuse me 2003 A.D. just called... they'd like me to return home at once.

(P.S. Julien Baker opens all three of these shows and she rules and so does this cover of a song on her fantastic album)

11
. PJ Harvey plays Brooklyn Steel on Thursday, April 20th.

4/20, duuuuuuuuuuude.

12. Surfer Blood play Music Hall of Williamsburg on Thursday, April 20th.

4/20, buuuuuuuuuud

13. The Coathangers play Sunnyvale on Thursday, April 20th (tickets) and Baby's All Right on Friday, April 21st (tickets).

4/20, weeeeeeeeeeed.

14. Chairlift play Brooklyn Steel on Saturday, April 22nd.

This is Chairlift's final show in NYC before they finally reach the top floor in the sky.

A good band. Once. Now. Forever. Amen.

Classic jam time.

15. Sebadoh play The Bell House on Saturday, April 22nd (tickets).

For years, every time Sebadoh came to town I used this blob as an opportunity to mention that "Brand New Love" is one of the best songs ever written.

But I'm a more mature blobber now, so I'll just say this...

Brand New Love = best song ever, man.

16. Explosions in the Sky play The Capitol Theatre on Saturday, April 22nd (tickets).

Those who go to this show shall live forever.

Those who couch it shall never know what it's like to visit Port Chester, NY.

Choose.

17. The New Pornographers play Terminal 5 on Wednesday, April 26th.

Despite the name, I hear this is a very tasteful show (although there may be hand claps).

You can't stop Carl Newman. Your stage can only hope to contain his crew.

Waxahatchee opens / Waxahatchee rules.

18. Mitski plays Brooklyn Steel on Saturday, April 29th.

Mitski is huge now! This show is totally sold-out.

If you don't have a ticket you should still try to get in somehow / somehow.

Mitski rules.

19. Pinegrove play Bowery Ballroom on Thurday, April 27th (tickets) and Music Hall of Williamsburg on Sunday, April 30th (tickets).

If you can't get into any of those Decemberists shows, you should go see Pinegrove the following week.

It'll lessen the sting of disappointment by about 100%.

20. Screaming Females play Brooklyn Night Bazaar on Thursday, April 27th (tickets).

NEW.

BRUNSWICK.

PUNK.

YOU.
