20 Good Shows To See in NYC This Week!

October 23rd - October 29th / 2017 A.D.

I. Black Kids at Baby's All Right on Monday, October 23rd.

This huge Black Kids jam may be nine years old at this point but guess what, it's my blob and I can post what I want, and I'm still not gonna teach yer boyfriend how to dance w/ u.

II. Avey Tare at Bowery Ballroom on Monday, October 23rd.

Dave Portner aka Avey Tare aka 1/4 of Animal Collective plays Bowery and tripping your face off wouldn't be a bad way to start the work week.

*tell your boss on Tuesday morning if they give you any crap for not having a face that this blob said it would be OK

III. King Krule at Warsaw on Tuesday, October 24th / Wednesday, October 25th.

Doesn't it seem like King Krule has gotten way more popular in the last year or so?

Guess a 23-year-old with the voice of an alcoholic grandpa slowed down to half speed will catch the ears of the masses eventually.

Both of these shows are sold-out, obviously!

IV. Wild Pink at Trans-Pecos on Wednesday, October 25th.

Wild Pink is a laid-back band from Brooklyn. They play good indie rock, man.

(Some call this slowcore but I'm not bored when I listen to this band so we can't call it that.)

Listen to their easy breezy full length debut album below (via Tiny Engines) and chill with the builds.

You will like this record. But if for some completely unbelievable reason you don't, well, we just don't see eye to eye anymore, dog.

RIYL: LVL UP * Death Cab * Codeine * Early Day Miners * American Analog Set * Good Bands

V. Japandroids at Brooklyn Steel on Thursday, October 26th.

My favorite punk pop duo since Cairobots and Cincyborgs first exploded on the scene.

VI. Sorority Noise at Irving Plaza on Thursday, October 26th.

When I make my Best Songs of 2017 list for this blob, this jam will definitely be on it.

So good!

VII. Julien Baker at Town Hall on Friday, October 27th.

Julien Baker's new album comes out this very day! (via Matador)

Here's the title track from that. It's very good.

Julien Baker rules.

Town Hall!

VIII. Protomartyr at Music Hall of Williamsburg on Saturday, October 28th.

"I really like the new Protomartyr record."

- Claire Rockness (Blob President) just the other day

IX. Beach Fossils at Brooklyn Steel on Saturday, October 28th.

A good band.

Forever.

Beach Fossils and chill.

(RIP, The Nasty Bits)

X. Sammus / Sneaks at C'mon Everybody on Sunday, October 29th.

Sammus* is a rapper/producer from Ithaca, NY.

Is this hip hop. Is this nerdcore. Is this punk. Is this pop.

Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes.

Sneaks is Eva Moolchan. She's from D.C. and creates concise big time post futuristic jams.

RIYL: Bass. Beats. Flow.

Sammus and Sneaks are dope as hell.

Rounding Out The Top XX:

Lana Del Rey at Terminal 5

Queens of the Stone Age at MSG

The Soft Moon at Rough Trade

Death From Above at Brooklyn Steel

Fischerspooner at Brooklyn Steel

Torres at Music Hall of Williamsburg

Richard Lloyd at The Bowery Electric

Peaches at Knockdown Center

Fall Out Boy at Barclays Center

Spank Rock at Pioneer Works
