20 Good Shows To See in NYC This Week
October 16th - October 22nd / 2017 A.D.
1. Moon Hooch at Bowery Ballroom on Wednesday, October 18th / Thursday, October 19th.
Best sax of your life.
2. First Aid Kit at Town Hall on Wednesday, October 18th.
The video that started it all.
Let's take it back to 2008 A.D.
3. Brand New at Kings Theatre on Thursday, October 19th.
Veteran emos Brand New just released a brand new album (see below) that everybody seems to love.
Therefore, this show is sold-out.
Yo, Jude Law. I just got back from a semester abroad. Can I be your +1.
4. Racquet Club at Knitting Factory on Thursday, October 19th.
L.A.'s Racquet Club is new band featuring members of old bands Knapsack, The Jealous Sound and Samiam.
Think good punk meets good pop meets good emo meets good rock (meets Knapsack / Jealous Sound / Samiam) and you'll be thinking juuuuust right.
5. Nathan For You at The Bell House (6 shows).
"Nathan For You is the funniest show on television." - Oh My Rockness
All six of these Q & A / Sneek Peek events are sold-out.
Because Nathan For You is the funniest show on television.
So help me blob.
6. Wolf Parade at Brooklyn Steel on Saturday, October 21st.
Let's take it back to 2006 A.D.
Give me your eyes
I need sunshine
Give me your eyes
I need sunshine
Your blood
Your bones
Your voice
And your ghost
We've both been very brave
Walk around with both legs
Fight the scary day
We both pull the tricks out of our sleeves
But I'll believe in anything
And you'll believe in anything
Said I'll believe in anything
And you'll believe in anything
If I could take the fire out from the wire
I'd share a life and you'd share a life
If I could take the fire out from the wire
I'd share a life and you'd share a life
If I could take the fire out from the wire
I'd take you where nobody knows you
And nobody gives a damn
Said nobody knows you
And nobody gives a damn
(Charly Bliss opens this show. Please note: they rule.)
7. Sheer Mag at Villain on Saturday, October 21st.
Sheer Mag is a scratchy messy pretty punk band straight outta Philly that combines dirty rock riffs with crushed up classic glam melodies.
FILE UNDER: Good
RIYL: Music
8. Hope Sandoval & The Warm Inventions at Brooklyn Steel on Sunday, October 22nd.
RIYL: Mazzy ⭐
WHO DOESN'T LOVE MAZZY ⭐
9. Smoking Popes at Knitting Factory on Sunday, October 22nd.
One of the more underrated (emo) pop punk / punk pop (emo) bands of the last twenty something years.
Smoking Popes have some seriously good jams!
Here's a deep cut to get you started.
RIYL: going to good shows
10. Psychedelic Furs at Warsaw on Sunday, October 22nd.
Speaking of deep cuts...
Here's a extremely good Psychedelic Furs deep cut from the post Pretty in Pink days.
God, I love this jam.
