20 Good Shows To See in NYC This Week

May 8 - May 14 / 2017 A.D.

1. Slowdive play Brooklyn Steel on Monday, May 8th / Tuesday, May 9th.

"Slowdive! Take it easy!"

- deep cut from Foghat's little known shoegaze album.

The legendary lush 'n dreamy band from Berkshire (born-on-date: 1989) is releasing their first new album in 22 years. It's so good.

To celebrate, Slowdive is playing shows like this one!

This show is sold-out. I am sorry.

(you can try getting tickets here if you want)

Hit Movies The Year Slowdive's Last Album Was Released:

Toy Story / Braveheart / Seven (what's in the box, bro?!) / Clueless / The Usual Suspects / Heat / Tank Girl

2. The Hum at Good Room on Monday, May 8 (and three more nights in May).

THE HUM brings together women who make music in New York City and beyond for evenings of collaborative performances.

Performers tonight at Good Room include Sadie DuPuis (Speedy Ortiz / sad13), Drew Citron (Beverly) and lots more talented artists.

See the full lineup here!

3. Father John Misty play Kings Theatre on Wednesday, May 10th and Brooklyn Steel on Thursday, May 11th / Friday, May 12th.

Have you seen this movie?

It's creepy, man.

4. Tokyo x Brooklyn at Brooklyn Expo Center on Saturday, May 13th / Sunday, May 14th.

Two days at the Brooklyn Expo Center. Brooklyn and Tokyo team up.

There will be music (Blonde Redhead / Anamanaguchi / Antibalas / Lots More)

There will be food (don't know what but I'm sure it will be delicious).

There will be much merriment.

5. Wavves play Bowery Ballroom on Friday, May 12th and Music Hall of Williamsburg on Sunday, May 14th.

If you havven't punked out at a Wavves show in a bit you'vve got two chances to fix that wrong right quick because this vvery good band plays two nights at Bowery Ballroom.

Post Animal opens. You know who's in that band? "Steve" from Stranger Things aka the new Ferris Bueller for Domino's.

(now Matthew Broderick should do a Papa John's commercial and be like "I'm the real Ferris Bueller just like Papa John's is the realest pizza.")

6. The Feelies play Rough Trade on Friday, May 12th / Saturday, May 13th / Sunday, May 14th.

The Feelies have crazy rhythms.

They're also the band in this clip from Something Wild.

*a good Jonathan Demme (RIP) movie released in 1986, just 42 short years after The Feelies first formed

7. Iron Chic play Saint Vitus on Friday, May 12th.

I've said it seven times and I'll say it again.

Iron Chic is one of the most fun bands you can ever hope to see in the live music game.

All their hardcore / punk / pop jams are huge and basically go like this:

"Life suuuuuuucks!

But things will be okaaaaayyyyy!"

8. Buffalo Tom play Bowery Balloom on Saturday, May 13th.

Buffalo Tom celebrate the 25 year birthday of their best album, Let Me Come Over.

If you somehow missed out on this band's goodness over the last few decades, the song below will get you caught up in a real hurry.

Larry, I ❤️ you.

9. Midnight Oil play Webster Hall on Saturday, May 13th / Sunday, May 14th.

Midnight Oil's first NYC shows in a million years!

The legendary Australian band (born-on-date: the '70s) can rock easy knowing their fans on the other side of the world haven't forgotten them because both of these shows at Webster Hall sold-out super fast.

I hope for your sake you already have your tickets or you have the disposable probably income required to get tickets here or you don't care!

Just be happy please.

10. The Jesus & Mary Chain play Brooklyn Steel on Sunday, May 14th.

The Jesus & Mary Chain is a loud band from Scotland.

Hit Movies The Year Jesus & Mary Chain Were Born:

Return of the Jedi / Flashdance / Scarface / Wargames (how about a nice game of chess, bro?) / Risky Business / Superman III (see also: heist plot of Office Space)

Rounding Out The Top Twenty:

Pond at Music Hall of Williamsburg

Tara Jane O'Neil at Union Pool

Savoy Motel at Baby's All Right

Meat Puppets at Brooklyn Bowl

Tei Shi at Rough Trade

Mastodon at Hammerstein

Face to Face at Knitting Factory

TEEN at Sunnyvale

ADULT. at Brooklyn Night Bazaar
