Let's talk about some good shows happening in NYC this week!

(this has been your really great intro)

Monday - June 20, 2016 A.D.

Mitski (<----click to read more kind words about Mitski) is really good. Japanese Breakfast (<----click to read more kind words about Japanese Breakfast) is really good. Jay Som (<-----you know what to do) is really good. All three play Bowery Ballroom and I'm gonna go out on a limb and say this show is going to be really good.

The Cure play Madison Square Garden.

This is my favorite Cure song, probably.

If it's not this song:

I don't know. The Cure have many good songs. And many clunkers too. That's life!

Turnover is good (<----click to read more kind words about Turnover). Sports is good (<----click to read more kind words about Sports). Forth Wanderers (<----click to read more kind words about Forth Wanderers) is good. All three play Mercury Lounge tonight and I'm gonna go out on a limb and say this show is going to be really good and also is there a ____ echo in here.

Other notable Monday shows = Rhett Miller at City Winery + The Goodbye Party at Silent Barn

Tuesday - June 21, 2016 A.D.

Pouty (<----click to read more kind words about Pouty) is a good new ____ band from Philadelphia. They play Aviv tonight (w/ Skating Polly and Thick). Features members of Slutever and Amanda X. Those are good bands too. What a world.

LVL UP is a good band. I've mentioned this several times on my music blob. Maybe this is the post where you finally hear me. They play Baby's tonight w/ Forth Wanderers (<----click to read more kind words about Forth Wanderers…..again) and Charly Bliss. Will this be a good show? Yes. Yes, it will.

Sick post ____ band The Twilight Sad (born circa 2005) play Bowery Ballroom. They're from Scotland. Therefore, they gotta be good. It's the law in that country, you know. You may not be a band unless you are good. Thems the rules. Orders come straight from the top on this.

Other notable Tuesday shows = Wye Oak at Warsaw + Public Enemy at Betsy Head Memorial Playground in Brooklyn (free) + Kevin Morby at Mercury Lounge + Washer at Shea Stadium

Wednesday - June 22, 2016 A.D.

Kristin Kontrol (<----click to read more kind words about Kristin Kontrol) is also sometimes known as Dee Dee from Dum Dum Girls (at other times she's known as Kristin Welchez). She plays Baby's All Right. If you feel like dancing on a Wednesday night (I'll have what you're having) this is your show.

Maybe you're in a heavier state of mind. That's fine. United Nations (<----click to read more kind words about United Nations) and RLYR (<----click to read more kind words about RLYR) lead a super ____ lineup at Saint Vitus. It will be loud and sweaty and good. Bring earplugs and protect each other in the pit

The Spirit of the Beehive (<----click to read more kind words about The Spirit of the Beehive) open for Superheaven (their last NYC show ever, mind you) at The Studio at Webster Hall. If you want to get in on the ground floor of a new band's goodness this Philadelphia post ____ band just might be your best band for that. Tell 'em Rockness sent ya.

And Deerhoof play Market Hotel (tomorrow too). Like that's not gonna be good. Gimme a break! It's Deerhoof. They've been good FOREVER. (editor's note: forever = 1994)

Other notable Wednesday shows = Olga Bell at 28 Liberty Plaza (free!) + Mutual Benefit at Mercury Lounge + Kevin Morby at Rough Trade

Thursday - June 23, 2016 A.D.

GOOD NIGHT FOR GOOD SHOWS!

Alvvays (File Under: A Good Band) play a free show in Prospect Park. GOING.

This is my favorite Alvvays song. It is so good.

Battles (one of the best live bands playing the game) and Sleep (bunch of dope smokers, if u ask me) play a free show (w/ RSVP) at House of Vans. Will it be good? Oh my blob, I was hoping you would ask that. Yes yes a million times yes this show will be good. So good. P.S. I love weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed.

Widowspeak (<----click to read more kind words about Widowspeak but I should warn you that profile I wrote is now 5 years old! sorry! consider it a time capsule!) play Bowery Ballroom (w/ Quilt and Cut Worms). Once. Now. Always. A Good Band.

Other notable Thursday shows = Mutual Benefit at Baby's All Right + Deerhoof at Market Hotel + Chris Gethard at The Bell House

Friday - June 24, 2016 A.D.

Everything else has lead up to this one, basically. Guess what! We're presenting both Modern Baseball (<----click to read more kind words about Modern Baseball) + Joyce Manor (<----click to read more kind words about Joyce Manor) + Thin Lips (<----click to read more kind words about Thin Lips) shows at Irving Plaza tonight and tomorrow!

Modernbaseball_fb_625

Please note: both shows are sold-out but you can still win free tickets from this blob - it's totally random who gets picked but just between us I hope it's you)

If you don't want to go to the show we're presenting (I'll just assume it's because you couldn't get tickets and not because you don't want to) you have some other solid choices:

Winter opens the action at Bowery Ballroom. (Winter is good.)

Downtown Boys play Market Hotel. (Downtown Boys is good.)

LadyHawke plays Rough Trade. (Ladyhawke is good.)

Other notable Friday shows = Drowners at Baby's All Right + The So So Glos at WFMU Monty Hall

Saturday - June 25, 2016 A.D.

PUP play Music Hall of Williamsburg.

Oh My Rockness will always love this band.

Forever and Ever.

Amen.

The So So Glos play Market Hotel. More like The So So Goods.

And, of course, it's the second night of the show this blob is presenting at Irving Plaza but we already talked about it (Modern Baseball and Joyce Manor and Thin Lips….remember?) and it's sold-out anyway (but you might still be able to win tickets….remember?) so never mind let's just forget I even blobbed again about this crazy sick show we're presenting.

Other notable Saturday shows = Julianna Barwick at Bowery Ballroom + Dead Stars at Berlin + Quasi at Rough Trade

Sunday - June 26, 2016 A.D.

Bill Callahan (people used to call him smog) plays not one but two shows at Baby's All Right tonight (and there's more where those came from). I think his entire run is sold-out, but whatever. If you really want to go see this “indie rock" legend you'll figure it out. I know you will. This blob believes in you.

Rainer Maria play Union Pool. Remember CMJ last year? Me neither! But I do remember thinking Rainer Maria was the best band I saw play that thing. They still got the post ___ emo goodness…. after all these years.

Also. Dolly Parton plays some place named after a bank.

Lead us home, Ms. Parton!

Other notable Sunday shows = Slothrust at Aviv + Trevor Noah at Central Park Summerstage (free)
