The casually excellent Northside Festival (in its ____ year) happens for a few fine days every June at various venues scattered around the *north side* of Brooklyn.

This means the south side of Brooklyn and its approximately 1.25 million residents (please note: I have no idea how many people live in the south side of Brooklyn) and everyone else in the world will have to travel a bit for this thing... but it will be totally worth it... because the lineups this year are pretty good! Check out the listings in our Guide To Northside and see for yourself.

Below are 15 bands (ordered by day - not by goodness) you should really try and see at the fest this year. At least make a strong effort, anyway. If life gets in the way and you are unable to actually attend that's OK don't beat yourself up about it too much you know what they say the best laid plans and all that.

But just try and see these guys.

That's all this blob is asking.

Try.

Presenting: 15 Bands To See at Northside Fest 2016

Thursday - June 9, 2016 A.D.

Wolf Parade

"If I could take the fire out from the water

I'd share a life and you'd share a life
If I could take the fire out from the water
I'd share a life and you'd share a life
If I could take the fire out from the water
I'd take you where nobody knows you
And nobody gives a damn
I said nobody knows you
and nobody gives a damn
I said nobody knows you
and nobody gives a damn either way
About your blood
your bones
your voice
and ghost
because nobody knows you
and nobody gives a damn either way

and now I'll believe in anything"

Three other things to know:

1.) This show is FREE.

2.) Wolf Parade rules.

3). This feature (so far, so great!) is really writing itself.

Wolf Parade plays a free show (with Land of Talk - they're good too!) in McCarren Park on 6/9.

Diarrhea Planet

"This is Diarrhea Planet's world.

We're all just pooping uncontrollably in it."

- Oh My Rockness

Diarrhea Planet plays (w/ Acid Dad) at Brooklyn Bowl on 6/9.

TEEN

TEEN is a good band. You heard it here fourteenth.

The super solid synth popsters play the Cascine + Terrorbird Media + Carpark Records showcase tonight w/ some other fine peeps and a "special guest headliner" that we'll call..... hmmmm.... we'll call them Zoumi Youma.

TEEN play Union Pool (w/ a special guest headliner we'll call Zoumi Youma) on 6/9.

You can also see TEEN on Sunday 6/12 at Sunnyvale (enter for a chance to win tickets to that show here).

Friday - June 10, 2016 A.D.

Jeff the Brotherhood

Just like the "Friends" were really friends IRL (!) the two dudes in Jeff the Brotherhood are really brothers IRL!

And unlike "Friends" Jeff the Brotherhood RULES.

*feel free to disagree with me about "Friends" many people enjoy that television program even to this day Joey is so funny because he's so dumb)

**you are not allowed to disagree with me about Jeff The Brotherhood ruling though I will cut you

Jeff The Brotherhood play Music Hall of Williamsburg on 6/10. Enter for a chance to win tickets here.

The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid To Die

This was one of my very favorite songs of 2015 A.D.

Thanks for listening and loving.

Please also remember to thank The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid To Die for writing this great song when you see them next...how about Friday at Palisades?

The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid To Die play Palisades on 6/10

Grandmaster Flash

He is legend.

Also this might be a good opportunity to revisit this classic scene from "Basquiat" below.

"Dizzy Gillespie - trumpet!"

"Charlie Parker - alto sax!"

"John Laporta - clarinet!"

"Billy Bauer - guitar!"

"Lenny Tristano! Lenny Tristano - piano."

"That was Max Roach at the drums."

"And Ray Brown on the

BASS."

Grandmaster Flash plays a free show in McCarren Park on 6/10

Colleen Green

LA.

420.

DIY.

Forever.

Music Fact #1: Seattle's Childbirth also plays this show and they're totally good too!

Music Fact #2: Diet Cig is ALSO all up in this one. Are they a good band as well? Yes, they are a good band!

Colleen Green plays Baby's All Right (w/ Childbirth and Diet Cig) on 6/10

Saturday - June 11, 2016 A.D.

Conor Oberst

You know him. You may love him. And if you don't that's fine too. All (emo)tions are welcome!

Music Fact #1: CB has been making music for like 23* years and he's still only 36*.

Music Fact #2: Please enjoy this song written when Conor Oberst was 14* or something.

*I'll have my dedicated full-time team of DIY music blob researchers fact-check these music facts ASAP and update accordingly........... NOT hahahaha!

Conor Oberst plays McCarren Park on 6/11

King Khan & The Shrines

Was it King Khan & The Shrines or King Khan & The BBQ Show that I saw in concert recently (at some venue or another) where King Khan's drummer insulted the crowd all night.... something about New Yorkers being too cool or being just a bunch of trust fund kids or something.... I can't remember.... I guess I could look it up but that's why I pay my dedicated staff of full-time DIY music blob researchers for.

King Khan & The Shrines play Brooklyn Bowl on 6/11

Psychic Ills

Let's go to Mars mannnnnn yeahhhhhhhhhh!

Psychic Ills play Music Hall of Williamsburg (aka Mars) on 6/11

Sunday - June 12, 2016 A.D.

Brian Wilson

This 73-year-old dude plays his old band's album live.

His old band was called The Beach Boys.

The album was called "Pet Sounds."

I think I've heard of it?

Isn't this video pretty great? I thought so!

Brian Wilson plays "Pet Sounds" at McCarren Park on 6/12

Into It. Over It.

Into It. Over It. is a good band.

Would I see Evan Thomas and crew at Rough Trade during Northside Fest this year?

I would!

Music Fact #1: Hurry also play this show. Hurry is a good band.

Music Fact #2: CLIQUE also play this show. Clique is a good band.

Into It. Over It. play Rough Trade (w/ Hurry and CLIQUE) at Rough Trade on 6/12

A Bunch Of (Mostly) Punk Bands At Aviv

If you like the punk rock and feel like taking a flyer on some good bands you may not already love yet, consider going to Aviv to close out Northside.

This all-day thing features Haybaby + Kal Marks + Mannequin Pussy + Horse Jumper of Love + WALL and more good bands I have yet to profile on my blob (MY BAD).

I like the punk rock.

A bunch of (mostly) punk bands play Aviv on 6/12
