The Best Shows in NYC This Weekend:

March 31, 2016

Written by Patrick McNamara

Thank you for spending some of your valuable procrastination time with Whoa My Blobness. I won't let you down. So help me blob.

You ready to talk about the decent shows happening in NYC this weekend?

Glad to hear its because there are a LOT.

SEE YOU THERE.

Thursday - March 31, 2016 A.D.

The first of the two big NYC David Bowie memorial concerts is tonight at Carnegie Hall with Pixies, The Mountain Goats, Cat Power, Flaming Lips, Michael Stipe, Debbie Harry, The Roots and a bunch more special guests. It's probably sold-out. I don't know. You check. I'm busy writing this thing. SEE YOU THERE.

Check out tomorrow's David Bowie Memorial lineup at Radio City Music Hall here whenever you're ready to love it. SEE YOU THERE.

Philly's Japanese Breakfast is the blissful bedroom pop project of Michelle Zauner (she's also in Little Big League - they're good too - but that's not important right now). I really like this band a whole lot which is why I recently wrote these nice words about them. If you like this band too maybe I'll see you at Shea Stadium tonight? SEE YOU THERE.

Jonathan "Modern Lover" Richman plays the first of two shows at The Bell House. He's straight. SEE YOU THERE.

Other notable Thursday shows = Lucius at Music Hall of Williamsburg + Junior Boys at Webster Hall + The Coathangers at Silent Barn + Kyle Kinane at Saint Vitus + Sophie at New Museum + Total Slacker at Berlin

Friday - April 1, 2016 A.D.

I can't wait to go to every single show I write about this week.*

*APRIL FOOL'S!

Remember when I was talking about Weezer? (If you skimmed over that portion of this article, no big deal, you didn't miss much, except that they play Warsaw on Wednesday). Well, this band that you may or may not still care about is back at it again... and this time it's (sorta) FREE. Go to Rough Trade starting at 11 AM on Friday and buy their new album and get a wristband to see them at 6 PM that night…. that is, if you still care. SEE YOU THERE.

Night #2 of the David Bowie Memorial Concert is at Radio City Music Hall. I already mentioned this but just throwing it out there again to see if this time it sticks. SEE YOU THERE.

Solid drum/synth duo Slingshot Dakota play songs off their super dope new album "Break" (Topshelf Records) tonight at Aviv. There shall be keys. Katie Ellen (ex-Chumped) also plays. File Under: Goodness. SEE YOU THERE.

Frankie Cosmos and eskimeaux lead a solid indie pop lineup at Shea Stadium (and Saturday too). SEE YOU THERE.

And Lucius play Webster Hall but I never got that sound. SEE YOU THERE.

Other notable Friday shows = WALL at Silent Barn + Jonathan Richman at The Bell House + David Cross at The Capitol Theatre + Magma w/ Helen Money at (le) poisson rouge + Worriers at Knitting Factory + Basia Bulat at Bowery Ballroom

Saturday - April 2, 2016 A.D.

Small Black and Frankie Rose play Bowery Ballroom. Go if you like good music and/or watching good bands and/or basketball. SEE YOU THERE.

Laura Stevenson and Crying and Chris Farren and Anika Pyle play Mercury Lounge. Go if you like going to good shows. SEE YOU THERE.

Dope Brooklyn punks The Men finally play Aviv after their 1/23 show was rescheduled due to that historic blizzard I barely remember. Go if you like snow. SEE YOU THERE.

Other notable Saturday shows = Robyn Hitchcock at The Grand Victory + Frankie Cosmos at Shea Stadium + Wolf Alice at Irving Plaza + Tijuana Panthers at Alphaville

SEE ALL OF OUR SATURDAY PICKS

Sunday - April 3, 2016 A.D.

Robyn Hitchcock plays The Grand Victory. I've never listened to Robyn Hitchcock. SEE YOU THERE.

Other notable Sunday shows = Buried at Sea at Saint Vitus + Ringo Deathstarr at Baby's All Right

SEE ALL OF OUR SUNDAY PICKS

Those are all the good shows in NYC this week.

I told you there were a LOT of them.

Maybe next week you'll believe me and we won't have to go through all this again.

Have fun.

SEE YOU THERE.*
