We're going to talk about the good shows this week. But first, please let me randomly pimp our Free Summer Shows list. OK. I linked to it. Random pimping completed. Will I do it again before September? Probably.

This week doesn't suck in the shows department. Everything else might be a mess in the world but at least we've got that. So let's talk about what's good instead of what's not. I find this positive perspective is more conducive to obtaining the chill vibez.

Let's get the goodness started!

Welcome to Costco. I luv U.

Thursday - June 25th, 2015 A.D.

Andrew Bird plays (le) poisson rouge and he's probably my favorite rock star violinist. Well, it's either him or Owen Pallet…. or Kishi Bashi…. and I make this same goddamn joke everytime I talk about Andrew Bird and it's not even a real joke. #behindtheblob #dontcare

Electronic sound shifter, RJD2, twiddles some knobs, pulls some levers, and fiddles with some pulleys at Output tonight. Let him manipulate your boring night into a nice one.

Desaparecidos play Shea Stadium (and Friday at Rough Trade) and I don't know about you but I never get tired trying to spell that band name. This show is sold-out. Sorry. Conor Oberst, I love you! (not really - I mean, he's fine - I like his songs - but my heart belongs to my music blob.)

Other notable shows = Ty Segall at The Bell House + Marc Maron at The Capitol Theatre + Tenement at The Acheron + Girl Band at Rough Trade

Friday - June 26th, 2015 A.D.

Phoenix psych-punks Destruction Unit play Palisades (and a free show Saturday at Union Pool) and they're real good but if you don't bring earplugs to this show you're real bad; at least that's what you're going to be telling your younger self when you're older and can't hear the sweet cries of your future grandchildren. #punk #rock

Gingerlys (click that) + Mercury Girls (click that) + Heathers (click that) + Diet Cig play Cake Shop and I just wrote kind words about three out of those four bands over the last two weeks because they're all super solid (your kind words are coming soon, Diet Cig - just a few more days and you'll be world wide famous too - so hang on, Diet Cig - you just hang on). Don't freak out, but I am going to this show. Have you ever seen a blob morph into a person before? It's crazy shit.

Boston indie rock vets Mission of Burma (formed circa 1979) play The Bell House and you should go for lots of reasons and one of these reasons is that this song below is fucking timeless, man, and how many reasons do you need?

Toronto hardcore darlings, Fucked Up, play The Wick (and Saturday at WFMU's Monty Hall). Everytime I see this band (and not to brag but I've seen them a few times) I remark to my closest show going companion how they are the masters of their own craft. And then that person usually nods and slowly inches away from me.

Other notable shows = Ty Segall at Mercury Lounge + Porcelain Raft at Baby's All Right + Marc Maron at BAM + Great Lake Swimmers at Bowery Ballroom + Mykki Blanco at Palisades + Lifetime at Starland Ballroom + James Chance at Trans-Pecos + Richard Thompson at Town Hall

Saturday - June 27th, 2015 A.D.

Morrissey plays Madison Square Garden tonight (assuming he doesn't cancel at the last minute like he's wont to do). Please wear your finest leather and furs and bring extra hot dogs to share!

David Byrne and a bunch of his famous friends and casual professional acquaintances (Blood Orange! Nelly Furtado!* How To Dress Well! tUnE-yArDs! St. Vincent! Ad Rock! More!) play Barclays Center tonight (and tomorrow too) for Contemporary Color. Take it away, press release! "Ten of the country's elite color guard teams—the flag-flipping, sequin-studded crème de la crème of the "sport of the arts"—sync steps with musical luminaries at Barclays Center for a bacchanalia of beats and sabre-spinning orchestrated by David Byrne." Sounds sweet to me.

*speaking of Nelly Furtado and Andrew Bird (I was a few days ago - scroll back to Thursday if you don't believe me), the other Andrew Bird joke I almost always make when discussing Andrew Bird is this: "I'm like Andrew Birddddd I can fly awayyyyyyyy!" It's a real gas.

Los Angeles psych popsters, Allah-las, play a FREE show at The Surf Lodge in Montauk. Guess who's never been to Montauk? THIS GUY. Please check out our Summer Show Guides for other places I have never been. (New Jersey? I think I've heard of it...)

Legendary classical composer, Philip Glass, plays David Zwirner Gallery and a ticket to this can be yours for a cool 300 bones. A steep price, for sure, but I'll tell you what, the music of Philip Glass will be remembered long after any of the other bands I've mentioned on this thing this week. Bet.

Other notable shows = The World Is A Beautiful Place And I Am No Longer Afraid To Die at Amityville Hall + Alex Calder at Cameo Gallery + Museum of Love (DFA) at Good Room + Tigers Jaw at (le) poisson rouge + Washer at Palisades + Marc Maron at The Paramount + Destruction Unit at Union Pool

Sunday - June 28th, 2015 A.D.

Philadelphia's Mannequin Pussy play Palisades (with Kal Marks! IAN! Dead Tenants!) and they make punk rock of the finest order. This good show is presented by good label, Exploding in Sound. You should go and have a really good time and I should mind my own business. Amen.

Porches and Frankie Cosmos play Storm King Art Center. Where's that? Consult this. If you don't need to consult that because you've been to Storm King before and you agree with me that place is super sweet, cool, looks like we already have the beginnings of a beautiful friendship.

Other notable shows = Broken Water at Elvis Guesthouse + They Might Be Giants at Music Hall of Williamsburg + Ariana Grande at Pier 26 + whatever's on TV on Sunday nights...True Detective 2? Is that a Sunday night show? Not sure. Only the gods of the couches know.
