((Tapes 'n Tapes)) Band Profile and Upcoming New York City Concerts - Oh My Rockness

Minneapolis' Tapes 'n Tapes were the talk of SXSW 2006. The foursome played like 114 times (I've told myself a million times not to exaggerate) to packed crowds eager to see how you could possibly incorporate the tuba into your heavy, angular synth pop. But somehow they blew that brass with spazzy sousaphone class.

They self-describe their sound as the illegitimate step-child of Frank Black and Stephen Malkmus, but they also very well might be Wire's grandkids (I sort of hear Violent Femmes too). Tapes 'n Tapes are the band you want to play at your party. Their songs are short and bouncy, and their style generally puts people in a good mood. Hmmm, sounds like another famous Minneapolis man... Kirby Puckett, we hardly knew ya.
