Let's talk about some good shows happening in NYC this week.
And let's have a good goddamn time doing so.
Monday - September 26, 2016 A.D.
Hamilton Leithauser (The Walkmen) and Rostam (Vampire Weekend) team up to sing some totally boss songs together at Rough Trade tonight. (SHOW INFO // TICKETS)
*both The Walkmen and Vampire Weekend w/ Rostam will be back together by mid 2017. Bet.
Danish electronic dude Trentemøller plays (le) poisson rouge. According to Wikipedia, Trentemøller composed the theme to AMC's “Halt and Catch Fire," a show I've never seen but have heard good things about from very reputable sources (my delivery guy, Steve). (SHOW INFO // TICKETS)
Other notable Monday shows = Penguin Prison at Brooklyn Night Bazaar
Tuesday - September 27, 2016 A.D.
But if it makes you feel any better Metallica is no longer a good band.
Beach Slang is one of the bossest punk bands in the land. The Pennsylvanianianans (sp?) play TWO shows at Rough Trade tonight: the first one at 6:30 is free and the one at 8:00 is not. (SHOW INFO // TICKETS)
(but the show one comes with Chris Gethard's Smiths cover band as the opener)
Jeff the Brotherhood play Market Hotel and I'm pretty sure it's impossible to have a bad time when these two Nashville dudes (they're really brothers! w0w! MINT! R@RE!) get up there and sweat/shred the f*#k out. (SHOW INFO // TICKETS)
(unless you don't like the rock or the roll in which case you will have a very bad time stay away stay far far away from this one)
That's right. From Holly Wood!
Wednesday - September 28, 2016 A.D.
Forever good record label 4AD has its “revue" tonight at Irving Plaza and three new bands from their roster will play songs just for you. It's FREE! The Lemon Twigs headline. This band will be popular. Bet. But not with real money please as this DIY music blob doesn't have any. Methyl Ethel & Pixx are playing too. (SHOW INFO // RSVP)
Shabazz Palaces (featuring the artist formerly known as Butterfly from Digable Planets and Tendai "Baba" Maraire whose father was mbira* master Dumisani Maraire) play a $3 show (with RSVP) at Baby's All Right. Go if you like good. (SHOW INFO // RSVP)
*the mbira looks like this
Bear vs. Shark are back playing shows again after a long “I hate this". See the best post ___ hardcore band to ever come out of Highland, Michigan at Market Hotel tonight…. if you have a ticket…. this one's sold the f*ck out. (SHOW INFO // TICKETS)
(try Bowery Ballroom tomorrow, maybe).
Thursday - September 29, 2016 A.D.
This band is GOOD for you.
Champaign, IL's Poster Children play Saint Vitus (their first NYC show in approximately a million years). One of the more underrated quiet/loud bands post ____ grunge bands of the '90s. You can count on that. (SHOW INFO // TICKETS)
Listen to this song if you need more proof and next time maybe you'll just believe this blob the first time.
Go if you like good.
But anyway, did you read the Seinfeld “9/11" spec script that's been going around?
You should. It rules.
Friday - September 30, 2016 A.D.
Please note: Russian Circles rule.
This is my favorite Yuksek song.
Do I care that it's now six years old?
I do not.
And in case you want to hear a totally boss remix why don't you blast this one too.
Lower Dens (please note: this Baltimore band led by Jana Hunter rules) play Pioneer Works in Red Hook. Guess what street Pioneer Works is on? Pioneer Street! Wonderful! It works! I love it! (SHOW INFO // TICKETS)
I'm running on empty.
Wait. What wave of emo are we living in these days? I keep losing track. Taking Back Sunday play Irving Plaza and there's no “I" in “blob." You Blew It! opens this show. I'm a fan. Pretty sure Robert DeNiro is too. (SHOW INFO // TICKETS)
“I offered you a chance when we could have done something I offered you the chance to be a cop and YOU BLEWWWWW ITTTTTT."
Saturday - October 1, 2016 A.D.
The Meadows Fest is today and tomorrow.
In a parking lot.
Oh. Cool. Maybe it'll be like this.
