The Browns bust Brooklyn up. - Oh My Rockness

Band We Like

The Browns bust Brooklyn up.

January 5, 2009
Brooklyn's The Browns are a retro punk trio (think NYC in the late '70s) featuring Ryan McReynolds, Austin Davilla and Santos Montano. McReynolds also runs 1928 Recordings, which not only put out The Browns recent debut, but also released that wonderful Muslims 12" record (now The Soft Pack) which got that band's hype train running along at a mighty quick clip.

There are many similarities between The Browns and The Soft Pack besides just sharing a label and being best buds. Both bands write songs that are short, raw and stripped-down. They both like to rock that clean guitar sound which again proves that you can be punk without relying on a distortion pedal. And the tempo of The Browns' songs is easy-free and in no real hurry to rock it out. Yep, kind of like The Muslims.

These guys are certainly good enough to not just be talked about in relation to another band, and that day will come sooner rather than later.
