((The Hong Kong)) Band Profile and Upcoming New York City Concerts - Oh My Rockness

THE HONG KONG photographed by Jeremy Balderson
Brooklyn's noisy electro-fuzz band, The Hong Kong, have several times been listed as the "Best Unsigned Band in New York." And their sound has three decades covered. Singer Catherine Culpepper's breathy vocals are straight out of the sun-drenched 60's pop movement, sounding a bit like Marilyn Monroe meets Blondie. With melodic synths of the 80's and pulsating bass lines of 70's punk, it's easy to see why The Hong Kong, with little publicity, continue to play packed out shows. Think Phil Spector meets My Bloody Valentine meets Stereolab meets New York Dolls. Phew!
