((Los Angeles Police Department)) Band Profile and Upcoming New York City Concerts - Oh My Rockness
Los Angeles Police Department
Written by Patrick McNamara
Los Angeles Police Department is Ryan Pollie. He lives in Los Angeles. He’s not a cop. But he uses that moniker when he makes pretty, partly cloudy lo-fi bedroom* pop in a pure, wavering tenor. And I’ll tell you what, though. No authority is gonna come throw his songs in the hole. Because this is a damn good upstanding fine situation, man.
As for other bands Los Angeles Police Department sound like. Uh. I don’t know. Sean Nicholas Savage meets Panda Bear? No, that’s not quite right. Sufjan meets Daniel Johnston? Nah. The Strokes meets Cher? Oh, let’s just leave it alone. This music blob is all blobbed up.
LAPD’s (shortening that shit from here on out - like how New Kids on the Block went to NKOTB) debut full-length was recently released and it’s a very pleasant listen. All 11 songs were written and recorded over the course of one day. Damn, son. One day? For real reals? There’s a lot of heartbreak on the record. It’s about the end of a summer love. It’s tender times, sure, but without being too whimsical or overtly emo about everything. There’s no crying in rock ‘n roll. Pollie sings his shit straight.
You can stream that whole thing below. I found it for you. It took me a couple seconds to source it, too. So the least you could do is listen to it. You’ll like it. I know you will. Because I believe in you.
