While Goblin Cock is very clear with their fans that they are not a joke band (stating rather precisely on their MySpace page, "Goblin Cock is not a joke band, Goddammit!!!") it can be hard to take a metal band seriously that a.) calls itself Goblin Cock b.) sings about Snuffaluffagus and c.) has Rob Crow as its singer.
As you probably know, Rob Crow has been in every band that's ever existed including, but not limited to; Pinback, Heavy Vegetable, Thingy, The Ladies, Holy Smokes, and Optiganally Yours. And that's not counting all of his solo albums.
Certainly prolific, most of Crow's creative projects also come with a big dose of humor. There are no coolness points for naming your band Heavy Vegetable. So while Goblin Cock may not be a "joke band," they still sound pretty funny to me. Rob Crow's stage name for Goblin Cock is "Lord Phallus" for crying out loud.
Regardless, the music Crow and his mates make here (including the great guitarist "Bane Ass-Pounder") is definitely real metal, so maybe that's all they mean by, "We're not a joke band. Anyway, Goblin Cock is for fans of bands like Gwar, that band who sang "Cotton Eye-Joe," Right Said Fred, and Previously on Lost. Just kidding, Rob!
