((By Surprise)) Band Profile and Upcoming New York City Concerts - Oh My Rockness

Written by Patrick McNamara

(South) New Jersey's By Surprise plays fuzzy twinkle-y indie rock and has been doing so since 2006. Have you not been paying attention? That's OK. No time like the present to allow some more musical goodness into your life.

This band of four (Rob! Dan! Pat! Devin!) keep it pretty low pro and if that's by design or bad luck I couldn't say (it's certainly not because they're not good because they are). But from now on, if you ever see they are playing a show near you, you should consider going to it, especially if you like any of the bands they list as liking on their Face Book page (I still have an .edu account and thus was able to gain access*): Cap'n Jazz, Archers of Loaf, Fugazi, Guided by Voices and in more modern times, Annabel. Can I put a couple of personal points on this list? Cap'n Jazz might be my favorite band of all time (I flew to their first reunion show a few years back and shot this video) and I listen to this song by Annabel at least once a day since it came out. Thanks for listening.

By Surprise has released several sound offerings over the years (including a solid EP for Topshelf Records: A Really Good Label) and you can enjoy them all at your leisure by clicking here or here or here (those all go to the same bandcamp page I just wanted to make triple sure you'll check it out).

But before you go anywhere please stay here another 2 minutes and 32 seconds and stream this brand new By Surprise song. Because it's dope.

* that FB .edu joke was deemed “not funny" in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 but let's see how it plays in 2016, this very well could be our year.
