((Anathallo)) Band Profile and Upcoming New York City Concerts - Oh My Rockness
Anathallo
Anathallo is a sprawling collective from Michigan whose zestful enthusiasm can be compared to Sufjan Stevens at his hand-clapping/cheerleading best. This is ambitious music, like that of Broken Social Scene, albeit even more accessible.
Anathallo concentrates on creating grand, melodic pop with the help of flutes, pianos, trumpets and a seemingly endless list of other instruments. Some may call this chamber-pop, but it sure beats any chamber-pop I've ever heard. In fact, when the vocals really get cooking, it almost sounds like emo.
Their latest album, Floating World, is getting much respect and is surely worth purchasing. I'm interested to see if their live show is a "big" as their recorded songs. Let's hope so.
