Celebration and Holy Fuck rock the Bowery Ballroom.

November 19, 2007
You may make the trek to Bowery Ballroom on Wednesday, November 28th to rejoice in Celebration's fiery electro-punk. But be sure to come early for Holy Fuck's insanely accessible math-instrumetal.

Celebration is a dynamic three-piece that features members of former bands, Jaks (on punk's Three One G) and Lovelife (Troubleman, Jagjaguwar). Co-founder Sean Antanaitis plays all the music for Celebration except the drums (that would be David Bergander's duty).

This means a thrilling balancing act of organs, electric keyboards, Moog bass pedals, and something called the guitorgan, an electric guitar hand-modified to produce sound through an analogue organ tone. He plays all of these instruments not just in the studio (hell, even Dave Grohl can do that) but on stage as well. It is a sight to behold.

Katrina Ford handles vocal duties with a passionate, guttural ferocity. Their debut self-titled album features guest appearances on several tracks by their friends, TV on the Radio. Celebration is a band interested in making music with primal intensity, and putting on shows full of sonic hijinx and euphoric energy.

Maybe you haven't heard of openers, Holy Fuck, yet because their emails keep going directly to your spam folder, but it's time you're made aware that Holy Fuck (sorry, mom) rules! This experimental electro collective from Toronto creates dramatic instrumental music big on beats that sounds like a more hip-hop version of M83 or an even stranger Battles.

Holy Fuck's self-proclaimed goal is to make modern electronic music without using laptops or any other programmed devices. So instead, they go for that futuristic sound using the old-fashioned staples, like guitars, bass, drums and... ok, this one is kind of newfangled... Casio keyboards.

The result is an energetic excursion into sonic exploration. Be sure to grab their danceable debut EP.

Celebration & Holy Fuck play the Bowery Ballroom, on Wednesday, November 28th.
