My Teenage Stride plays pleasant pop. - Oh My Rockness

Band We Like

My Teenage Stride plays pleasant pop.

May 16, 2007
These guys are great and I'm ashamed at myself for just learning about them now. They have, after all, already released three albums in their four-year existence. It's obvious the four men in Brooklyn's My Teenage Stride have no shortage of pop songs in their arsenal.

The band plays lovely and shoegaze-y indie pop that rock those jingle jangle guitars of old time U.K. bands like Echo and the Bunnymen and The Wedding Present (although perhaps more pleasant sounding). And if contemporary band comparisons are more your jam, they also sound similar to the good distortion-free Brooklyn band, Human Television.

A very polished band, My Teenage Stride writes solid songs that rest on a firm musical foundation. You don't have to be a Musicology major to know these guys are song craftsmen, as melodic riffs easily co-exist with joyful bass thumps, snappy percussion and well-placed synths. You do, however, need to like upbeat and catchy songs for you to like My Teenage Stride. But who doesn't like upbeat and catchy songs?

My Teenage Stride play Knitting Factory, on Saturday, May 26th.
