One time. One time.

Let’s look alive out there. Make it a good day - all day.

Watch me for the signs.

And let’s have some fun up there.

Here we go now.

One time. One time, now.

These are The Best Shows This Weekend.

Thursday - March 13th, 2014 A.D.

SXSW continues. Outside the box thinking street teams rejoice! (this year's street team move = face painting the passing alts = bet)

Porches play Shea Stadium tonight. I think I talked about them last week. But I don’t totally remember. Can one of you 13 regular readers remind me?.................. You never answer!!!!!!!! That’s fine. I’m moving ahead with it anyway. You should go see Porches tonight. It’s down home real talk - true spit - for the good ol’ alt boys and girls who want it sung to ‘em straight.

Ice Balloons play Death by Audio. Kyp Malone of TV on the Radio is in that band. So is a guy from Samiam (DON'T BREAK ME!!!!). Ice Balloons make sludge space funk.

Yes, Wikipedia? You wanted to say something? “S. A. Andrée's Arctic balloon expedition of 1897 was an effort to reach the North Pole in which all three expedition members perished.” Cool! Thanks for ruining my night.

Former X-ecutioner/X-Man Rob Swift does a late night DJ set at Pianos. Let’s take it back. There was a time in 1997 when I was obsessed with the record you see below. I haven’t returned to this album in quite some time. Busy sowing my wild oats, I guess. But I just listened to it again for the purposes of this very article (A Blobber Prepares). It still holds up pretty well. I could probably do without the slow interludes. But turntablism never dies. It just spins and scratches on and on until the wax wears out.

(“X-Presssions” = coolest album cover art ever?)

Also. Xiu Xiu was going to play Knitting Factory tonight. But they cancelled. So don’t go. And always always ALWAYS remember.....The Alamo.

(I don't even know anymore, guys)

SXSW still going. Veteran music industry nerds still complaining about "how much it has changed."

California X + Sleepies + LVL UP + Washer (gotta get on writing a profile for these guys too) play Shea Stadium in Brooklyn. Have you ever read “Last Exit to Brooklyn” by Hubert Selby Jr.? It’s one of my favorite books of all time. It haunts me, man. Anyway, this will be pretty punk. The show, I mean. At Shea Stadium. In Brooklyn.

Guards play Brooklyn Night Bazaar tonight. These power pop hippies will have you rethinking what a flea market can be. As always, the show is free. As always, the bars of kale soap are not.

Prince Paul holds court (delightful!) at a hot new club called The American Museum of Natural History tonight. Ask one of the guards to lead you to the dance party being held in "The Hall of the Universe." Whoa. Intimate this is not.

Vancouver’s Young Galaxy play Brooklyn Night Bazaar tonight. YOU. SHALL. NOT. PAYYYYYY! In celebration, here’s a very happy song.

(p.s.: prrrrrretty sure the “pretty boy” Young Galaxy is referring to is, in fact, myself... definitely hearing something familiar there... mostly in my facial features.)

Com Truise brings intergalactic Betamax beats to Bowery Ballroom. They should get this guy to play The Hall of the Universe someday. That pairing would trip my mind through speckled flecks of cosmic time, mannnnn.

Tits of Clay play Mercury Lounge. No relation to these guys. I don't think.

I don’t know what Tits of Clay’s deal is. I know their name is Tits of Clay. And sometimes that’s enough.
