Band We Like

Brooklyn's Alex Delivery are a strange new band worth watching.

April 4, 2007
Point:

Brooklyn's Alex Delivery has a very strange, almost haunting, sound that leaves me feeling uneasy but also wanting more. You know those times when Xiu Xiu really wigs out on the distortion and electro weirdness and you have no idea what's going on? That's the kind of music Alex Delivery makes.

There are off-kilter string solos, strange Krautrock reverberations, and an enigmatic vocalist who sings almost as an afterthought above this eclectic din. Their intriguing debut album, Star Destroyer, comes out soon on Jagjaguwar Records (Black Mountain, Oneida, Wilderness). Spooky shit.

Counter Point:

"I hate people who review indie music. I was browsing the shows on Oh My Rockness this morning and I made the mistake of reading some of the recommendations staff members had posted onto the site. I almost vomitted. The music they liked was, for the most part, terrible--but that shouldn't have surprised me, considering the basis on which they judged the music in their reviews: "You know those times when Xiu Xiu really wigs out on the distortion and electro weirdness and you have no idea what's going on? That's the kind of music Alex Delivery makes." Where is the musical analysis? There's not even a Pitchforkian pretentious foray into the past or the collective indie unconscious or whatever. That is, I don't even know what the music makes people feel like. What about the album? Is it cohesive? Is there a message? A backstory? Or did you just listen to two minutes of Alex Delivery and decide it reminded you of Xiu Xiu? Yeah, that is what you did. Because Alex Delivery is unlistenable. So shut up." http://iamiorek.livejournal.com/125457.html

Alex Delivery plays Luna Lounge, Friday, April 6th, and Tonic, Thursday, April 12th.
