These are The Best Shows This Weekend.

Thursday - February 13th, 2014 A.D.

Grass is Green + Slonk Donkerson + Heeney do it good. Keep your ears trained on these up-and-coming emerging breaking buzzy alts tonight at Shea Stadium. You’re gonna like the way you hear. I guarantee it.*

(*guarantee not a guarantee - everyone’s tastes and preferences are unique - may also cause swelling, night rashes, and unexplained heart palpitations - explained by your unhealthy lifestyle.)

Lee Ranaldo (Youth, Sonic - and the Co #1 Greatest Guitarist of all Time according to the alt zine called Spin) and The Dust (in the wind, dudes) + Steve Gunn (former Violator of Kurt) play Union Pool tonight and it will be a good show. Should be crowded. Hot. And loud. My ideal setting. As long as I have my mini motorized water spritzer fan thing. I obviously can’t go to any show without my mini motorized water spritzer fan thing.

(UPDATE: LEE RANALDO IS NO LONGER PLAYING THIS SHOW BUT STEVE GUNN STILL IS AND I WOULD DO THAT CROSS OUT THING ON THE DESCRIPTION ABOVE LIKE THE REAL BLOBS USE BUT I DON'T KNOW HOW AND TELL ME NOT MY FAULTS FOR I ALREADY KNOW THEM)

Kele Okereke of Bloc Party is DJ’ing a surely danceable happening at Cameo Gallery late tonight w/ JDH of FIXED. I hope Kele knows he can’t just play “Intimacy” on repeat because he’s still convinced that one is a grower.

(that wasn’t very nice of me - but it also wasn’t nice for Kele and his band to stop making good albums - so…. karma... it can be a beeeyotch!!!)

Other notable shows = Chris Keating of Yaesayer doing a DJ thing at the Alt Hotel + American Royalty at Baby’s All Right + Helado Negro at Trans-Pecos.

Brooklyn Night Bazaar. Brooklyn Night Bazaar. That’s all I talk about on this thing is Brooklyn Night Bazaar. Oh well. That’s what happens when things get free. People like me won’t shut up about it. Tonight, Team Spirit and some other bands play that fine venue. You should go. You should also consider buying some locally made trinkets…. like the handmade kale bowl made out of hardened Kombucha…. and I should mind my own business.

Scanning our listings, I see there is a “Kings of Leon” playing a venue called “Madison Square Garden” tonight. I’m not familiar with this band or that club but several people have saved this show using their My Rockness account - so I thought I should mention it - in order to plug My Rockness.

Star Slinger and some other danceable boom boom zoom beat makers play Best Buy Theater tonight. Like those Arcade Fire shows, there is a specific dress code required for this one. You must wear a blue collared shirt and khakis. And while not required, it would help if at this show you could try to turn people on to new platforms and screens... and oh yeah, pretend that new technology is the key to longterm happiness, please. Thx!

UPDATE: OH YEAH HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY I GUESS

If you have to choose between going to a show on Friday or Saturday, definitely pick tonight. If you’re gonna go to a show on both nights - there’s no problem here. No problem at all. I’m just saying if you HAD to choose one night over the other. Like, someone is holding you by your ankle over a bridge and is shouting, “Friday or Saturday! Friday or Saturday!” You’d say, “Saturday!” and then the person would let you up and everything would return to being fine.

Yuck + Alvvays play Bowery Ballroom tonight. If you’re gonna go to this, you’re probably doing so because you like Yuck. Hey, I like Yuck too. But don’t take your sweet little time getting ready and end up missing Alvvays. Because you’ll be missing goodness. And all because you weren’t sure if you were ready to walk away from the mirror and your hair. Look. Hair styling should be a spontaneous act. You’re either gonna get it right away or great hair is not gonna be in the cards that night. Don’t double down and waste more minutes working it. Accept your fate. Walk away. Try to have great hair again tomorrow. Remember what Chumbawumba said?

Ice Choir + Germans + Future of What are three good bands. And they are all playing the same place tonight. Cameo Gallery. Now, I can only pick one song from one of these bands to post (my blob - my rules - my self) so I’m gonna go ahead and pick this Germans song. Because it’s really catchy and great. “Feel good about feeling bad,” as Germans states on Soundcloud. I’m all for that. I’ve long since moved past listening to music to make me feel sad. We’re all booked up there.

Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and Low Fat Getting High play…. yes….. Brooklyn Night Bazaar tonight. If you’ve never seen JSBE and you’ve sort of wanted to but somehow you just never got around to it even though you’ve been mostly curious about this band for the last 15 years or so - now would be a good time to knock this off your Bucket List (ok, maybe the “Nice to Have But Not Necessarily Need Nor Super Urgent” category of your Bucket List - maybe like your Bucket List’s addendum - or sequel - The Bucket List Part 2: Die Harder). Why now? Because it’s free.

(and Low Fat Getting High are good too - their name wouldn’t be linked like that if they weren’t.)

Cheap Trick play The Wellmont Theatre tonight? Well, son of a Gunderson, why didn’t someone tell me! I know most of you aren’t going to decide to see Cheap Trick. But let’s just revisit the pop perfection of this song for the next four minutes and fifteen seconds. I want to experience it again with you.

God, that was great. OK. Let’s move on.

Other notable shows = Kanye West at Prudential Center (please ready your think piece about this performance, smart sites and informative blobs!) + The Queers (times Deux) at Mercury Lounge + Penguin Prison (doing a “DJ set with live vocals” - so….karaoke then, yeah?) at Glasslands + Supreme Cuts at Baby’s All Right + Sea Wolf at (le) poisson rouge (i did parantheses first, lpr) + Free Time (read) + Baked (read) + Beuno + Zula at Shea Stadium.

See? Aren’t you glad you said “Saturday!” when that person was holding you by your ankle over that bridge?

More like FUNday. Right? I says it’s more like FUNday.

OK. Now things are just getting stupid.

Let’s see... what’s happening tonight. Scanning. Scanning. Scanning. Oh! Roomrunner are back in town at Death by Audio (with Big Ups - and surely some other wonderfully noisy bands). I love those lads! And I don’t know why I just called them lads. I’ve heard rumors that their upcoming EP is going to feature “pretty” songs. I know. I know. Loud ass Roomrunner going pretty? JUDAS! I’m going to bring an ax and cut the wires from their amps. That will show them what I think about pretty! Then they’d have no choice but to go back to loud and noisy! Because I cut off all their power!

(this is where everything breaks down - and i’m just j to the k about not wanting to hear Roomrunner go pretty - i can’t wait - i mean, i can - but i don’t want to.)

Diarrhea Planet and Those Darlins play Music Hall of Williamsburg (mmmm. and how!) tonight. I said it once. I’ll say it again. For the sake of dynamically recycled web content. This is Diarrhea Planet’s world. And we all are just pooping uncontrollably in it.

Finally. Go see Adult Dude open the festivities at Radio Bushwick. I just wrote about Adult Dude. Because I like them. And thought that you maybe might like them too. That’s what this has always ever been about. That’s the deal. That’s the rub. My tastes are OK. Your tastes are OK. And everyone is chill. Forever and Ever. Amen.

That was so great. Thanks for playing again this week.

See you next Monday.

Until then.

We toast to world peace.

And never being dangled from a bridge by our ankle.
