The Best Shows This Weekend!

Use this intro space to write a dynamically branded message that will increase your open rates and click-throughs and page views and traffic and happiness. Consider adding “tags” to increase “SEO” performance. Common examples of dynamic tags include things like: “Website” and “Dynamic” and “Cute Kitten Dressed As Cute Puppy.”

Carefully consider the content of your creative content and don’t be content with writing from the heart. (Dynamic Marketing Rule #1: Search Engines do NOT like heart. Dynamic Marketing Rule #2: always capitalize Search Engines - though grammatically incorrect - it makes them feel more important and you want the Search Engines on your side.) For example, if you are writing about live rock ‘n roll music concerts performed by bands with gigs in New York City, try to incorporate those very specific words into your dynamic article. Don't worry. You'll find a way.

But perhaps the most important use of this intro space is to say LIVE FROM NEW YORK IT’S THE BEST SHOWS OF THE WEEK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FINE. SO I’M A LITTLE LATE IN THE GAME ON THE GOODNESS OF WILD YAKS, OK?!? YOU’VE MADE THAT PERFECTLY CLEAR ON THE TWITTER. Seriously. Listen up now. It’s never too late. It’s never, ever too late to get into something good. Unless you arrive after Wild Yaks play tonight at Shea Stadium. Then it's too late.

Wavves + Fidlar + Cheatahs are playing Glasslands tonight (and also Friday at Shea). You know the Wavves situation. And you probably know Fidlar. But there’s a good chance you don’t know Cheatahs. And you should. They’re sick. In a healthy way. Are you familiar with this music industry insider slang term “sick” to describe bands that are “good?” Anyway, Cheatah’s goodness is why we asked them to play our SXSW party this year. Did they disappoint? They. Did. Not.

But what I really want to tell you is this. If...and only IF.....I haver. I know I’m gonna be. I’m gonna be the man that’s havering....to you. My havering for you never dies. It just hangs out at The Bell House for these guys. Guest list for Benny. Plus 1 for Joon.

Chad Valley is at the top of a solid line-up at Glasslands tonight (he plays again Saturday at Mercury Lounge). I told you this a couple of years ago. I’ll tell you again now. “Shell Suite” is one of the finest pop songs you’ll ever hear. I’m serious too. Don’t let the dumb internet hyperbole that’s out there ruin the magic for you and for me. For us.

The four-night Brain Cave Festival starts tonight at Europa. Lots of good bands are playing between tonight and Sunday. And you can go workout at my old YMCA right across the street from Europa first. So that’s a plus. Ahhh. Like Sparks in 2006, those were the good old days. I WAS that slow moving elliptical machine.

I’m looking forward to seeing Roomrunner again. They played our SXSW party. And our CMJ party too. Both times - they were really, really loud. And they had good jokes. What else do you need? Oh yeah. Jams. You need good jams too. They have those too. Frontman Denny Bowen describes Roomrunner as “Everclear meets Charles Bronson.” Let's say no more and let that description sink in.

285 Kent has a good one tonight with Doldrums + Friends + Sean Nicholas Savage. Another one you should arrive early for. Listen to that fine SNS album below. Doesn’t he kind of sound like Harry Nilsson?

What do you mean, Harry who? THIS guy. That’s it. You’ve got it now.

Appleseed Cast are still doing it. And doing it well. Whenever this song comes on my iPod - it makes me want to go that extra mile - on the elliptical - this was a few years ago - in my glory days - but that’s all over now.

Some people rest on this day. But not you. Because you're a closer. Consider ending your week loud. Get into Toronto’s The Soupcans. They shred pretty good. And they’re playing Death by Audio. For fans of Metz. And the Mets. When the Mets are winning. At all other times, for fans of the Blue Jays.

Prince Rupert’s Drops play Glasslands. They’ve got jingle. They’ve got jangle. They’re what happens when you drip molten glass into cold water.

That’s it. You guys have been great. We sat around together. And we shared the joy. That’s what we did.
