Brown Recluse spread the love. - Oh My Rockness

Band We Like

Brown Recluse spread the love.

August 29, 2011
Philly's (nope, not Britain's) Brown Recluse is one of Slumberland Records' newest signings. Slumberland, of course, has been around forever (est. 1989) but recently found resurgence in large part to the success of The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. And Brown Recluse is an exceptional new addition to the label and to The Pain's lush and shimmery shoegaze craze.

This band's guitars simply sparkle, propelling these particularly sunny melodies to happy lands. Boy, it sure sounds like these guys are from merry ole England, but alas, they're not. I definitely hear a lot of Britpop going on here, especially Belle & Sebastian's preciously fragile thing.

Brown Recluse makes the kind of music you just want to roll up your sleeves and squeeze. Wurlitzers and flugelhorns have always made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, so maybe that's why this band spreads such good vibes. Brown Recluse aren't going to make many enemies with this perfectly agreeable pop.

Brown Recluse play Glasslands, on Saturday, September 3rd.
