American Analog Set and their lovely, lo-fi pop. - Oh My Rockness

Band We Like

American Analog Set and their lovely, lo-fi pop.

November 16, 2005
For close to a decade, Austin's American Analog Set have quietly been playing some of the finest hush-rock. Led by Andrew Kenny's breathy vocals, this is a band that soothes more than it rocks out. Their warm synths, subtle guitars, and even xylophones help to ease the edge on life. These guys aren't boring, they just aren't very flashy. But damn, does this band know how to write a catchy melody.

Melody is one thing that never fails to surface in an American Analog Set song, no matter how experimental or distorted the path their tracks may take. Whether their songs are bouncy or downright melancholy, it's always easy to hum, whistle or sing along. For such an unassuming band, it's amazing that they've been around as long as they have. But then again, that's probably exactly why they're still around...for now anyway. The brightest bulb burns out the faster, while the slowest flame flickers forever.

American Analog Set plays Southpaw, Friday, November 18th, and Mercury Lounge, Saturday and Sunday, November 19th and 20th.
