Monday - October 10, 2016 A.D.

Chicago's Whitney (ex-Smith Westerns) play Music Hall of Williamsburg (and tomorrow at Bowery Ballroom and Wednesday at Baby's All Right). They're good! Go Bulls! (Go Cubs would be more relevant/timely but I'm a White Sox fan and I just can't do it).

Please note: Hoops is also playing this show. They're from Indiana and they're good too but maybe not quite as good as Jimmy Chitwood's silky smooth jump shot that took the Hoosiers of Hickory all the way, but then again what was.

Slingshot Dakota play Aviv and this lo-fi duo has been slinging indie synth pop gold for over a decade now.

Go see them and watch your mood improve.

Savak (ex-Obits, Holy Fuck, Nation of Ulysses) play Union Hall.

It will be a post psych / post punk post _____ / good time.

Other notable Monday shows = Still Corners at Baby's All Right + Eric Burdon and the Animals at City Winery

Tuesday - October 11, 2016 A.D.

Cloud Nothings return to the scene of their very first show EVER (the year was 2009 A.D.) tonight at Market Hotel. This band rules. Hard. You're gonna want to be at this one.

(UPDATE: THIS SHOW HAS MOVED TO VILLAIN OK SEE YOU THERE THEN)

Blonde Redhead performs their beautiful 2004 album “Misery is a Butterfly" with the American Contemporary Music Ensemble at the Co-Cathedral of Saint Joseph in Brooklyn. Luke Temple opens.

This show should sound just like heaven.

Other notable Tuesday shows = Drake at Barclays Center + Ilana Glazer at Littlefield + Arto Lindsay at National Sawdust + Merchandise at WFMU Monty Hall

Wednesday - October 12, 2016 A.D.

Soccer Mommy is a good new artist you should get into if you like good lo-fi bedroom pop soaked in super melodic ennui. And who doesn't, really? Soccer Mommy plays Silent Barn tonight.

Go appreciate the ache and love the glow.

Joan Baez plays NYCB Theatre at Westbury and you may or may not go (as of this writing, Westbury is 2 hours and 4 minutes away from NYC in current traffic) but it's a good excuse to post this song and she's a legend no matter what you do.

(but perhaps her performance tomorrow at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY which is only 1 hour and 9 minutes from NYC in current traffic might be workable for you and if not there's always her show on Saturday at The Wellmont Theatre in Montclair, NJ which is only 1 hour and 4 minutes from NYC in current traffic NOW we're talkin')

Boys Noize does Music Hall of Williamsburg and this dude holds the highest degree possible in Dance Jam Mastery. He really cooks the bacon.

I know the song I'm about to post is a few years old (editor's update: try 9 years old, blob) but it's still a straight rager and this is my music blob I can post whatever I want.

Other notable Wednesday shows = Drake at Barclays Center + Whitney at Baby's All Right

Thursday - October 13, 2016 A.D.

Four really high and rising punksters play Aviv tonight (celebrating the 33 ⅓ book release of “Psychocandy") and their names are Big Ups, Greys, Patio and Yucky Duster.

This will be a good show. You will have a good time. This I promise you. Cross my heart and hope to blob.

The excellent music resource Aquarium Drunkard is presenting a super solid show at Rough Trade led by Omni, EZTV, Muuy Biien & more goodness.

Going to this wouldn't be the wrong move.

Holy Ghost! play Terminal 5. Hallelujah!

Dance moves mandatory. Speaking in tongues optional.

Other notable Thursday shows = Kal Marks at Shea Stadium

Friday - October 14, 2016 A.D.

Guess who's coming?

It's...!

Guess who's coming?

It's...!

DJ Shadow. Back again.

Who is he?

Just yo favorite DJ savior!

The coolest cat in music plays Music Hall of Williamsburg tonight and tomorrow.

(When I was in college I went to an in-store he was playing at and I asked him some awkward flummoxed question about something or another and he was so chill about it and when I leaned in for a handshake he shook it like we were best bros from back in the day.)

M83 play Terminal 5 (and tomorrow too). Anthony Gonzalez, you my only friend. This is one of the most popular upcoming shows on the blob!

Here's some fun trivia: as of this writing (3:30 PM in the Year That I'm Writing This) both of these shows are still somehow impossibly improbably NOT sold-out. But don't snooze - they will be soon.

Scott & Charlene's Wedding make a rare NYC appearance* (their onetime home) at Alphaville. So take advantage and go punk yourself out, Australia style.

File Under: Good Band!

Other notable Friday shows = Preoccupations (fka Viet Cong) at Warsaw + Javelin at Baby's All Right (free) + Luscious Jackson at The Bell House

Saturday - October 15, 2016 A.D.

White Lung play Market Hotel and if you didn't already know these Vancouver punks totally rule, I suggest you go to this show and you'll figure it out pretty quick.

CHVRCHES play Radio City Music Hall (and Sunday at Terminal 5). But seriously, how could NBC not use their big time feel good jam “Make Them Gold" during this summer's Rio Olympics? You know, for the winners montage they always run at the end? When they show all the great American heroes who won gold medals? Come on, NBC! It would've been perfect!

Too perfect, I guess.

2 good 4 TV.

Cymbals Eat Guitars play Shea Stadium and listen up they're one of the best live bands in the game and I just saw them play like two weeks ago they rocked my face so I think I know what I'm blobbing about.

Scotland's Teenage Fanclub play Bowery Ballroom (and tomorrow at Music Hall of Williamsburg). Legends!

If you don't know this album from 1991 A.D. now's as good of a time as any to start the next 42 minutes of the rest of your life.

The Besnard Lakes play a free outdoor show at the Taste of the Seaport today. Wanna go? Cool!

Other notable Saturday shows = M83 at Terminal 5 + DJ Shadow at Music Hall of Williamsburg + Dillinger Escape Plan at Webster Hall + Chrome Sparks at (le) poisson rouge

Sunday - October 16, 2016 A.D.

Greta Kline of Frankie Cosmos plays solo at Trans-Pecos. She rules. Please enjoy this performance from when she was 10.

(“Squid and the Whale" -- the film this clip is from -- is a great movie and still absolutely holds up. Jeff Daniels is perfect and William “That's Some Song, My Brother" Baldwin puts in the best Baldwin performance of any Baldwin ever.)

Other notable Sunday shows = CVHRCHES w/ Potty Mouth at Terminal 5 + Teenage Fanclub at Music Hall of Williamsburg + Buke and Gase at Threes Brewing
