Governors Ball is this weekend over on my buddy Randall's island (and all those After Dark shows too).

Are there some heavy-hitters playing this thing? Of course! To be sure! You bet! And how! The Strokes + CHVRCHES + Death Cab + Father John Misty + Beck + Robyn + The Killers + Haim + M83 + _____ (x) = many good bands and excellent people you've totally heard of. And somebody named Kanye 2.

However there are a bunch of good bands involved with this thing that might be slightly more “under-the-radar." ←--must patent that phrase immediately.

I would like to blob a bit more today about 5 of these bands (because they're totally good!) and I hope you read/love this you will go see them on either my buddy Randall's Island or at one of the official “After Dark" shows this week.

I've listened to Day Wave's (aka Jackson Phillips and friends) new EP (Hard to Read) approximately 55 times in the last few weeks and in case you are wondering, no, that's not all I'm prepared to give that thing.

I REALLY like this band. And when I use ALL CAPS like that you know I'm not messing around.

Ain't nothin' wrong with this Chicago band....ain't nothin' wrong with this band at all.

If you like Smith Westerns and/or Unknown Mortal Orchestra and/or songs that sound good I highly suggest you get after this one.

Not really “under-the-radar" anymore (<----double reminder to patent that phrase immediately) and more of a person than a band I guess but Courtney Barnett's “meh rock" (<---you can have that one) still rules and therefore makes this list. DEAL WITH IT. WHILE I GO DEAL WITH MY CAPS LOCK KEY.
