There are lots of dope shows this weekend.

Again.

I love this city.

Let's discuss them.

And let's be #chill about it.

Here we go!

Thursday - May 12, 2016 A.D.

La Luz came all the way from Seattle to play their post ____ surf rock for you at Market Hotel and I would go and let them if I was you. But I'm not. I'm just a local music blob giving you a friendly recommendation to not be an idiot and at least consider going to this show. Amen.

The Zombies play a free show at Rough Trade tonight at 6:30 and they're pop LEGENDS (no I will NOT get my CaPS LoCK kEY FIxED) and I mentioned that this show was free and they're legends, right?

The Zombies song I have conveniently posted for your streaming pleasure below is the classic cut from their catalog and I always think of The Wonder Years (which totally 100% still holds up, BTW) whenever I hear it and sometimes I wish Daniel Stern narrated my inner thoughts instead of whoever's narrating them now.

Louis C.K. is throwing a fundraiser for his bud, Bill de Blasio, at Brooklyn Bowl tonight. 150 bones gets you in and…….. you're totally not gonna go to this are you? Shit. I knew it. Me neither.

Sinkane is in the middle of his mont-long residency at Union Pool and guess what? He's good! Go if you like swinging to the HITS.

Other notable Thursday shows = Dead Meadow at Saint Vitus Bar + U.S. Girls at Mercury Lounge + The Posies at Secret Location + Fruit Bats at Rough Trade + Glenn Kotche (of Wilco) at National Sawdust

Friday - May 13, 2016 A.D.

Rogue Wave plays Bowery Ballroom (and tomorrow at Music Hall of Williamsburg) and I've been a receptive listener of this fine post ____sunshine pop since 2004, son. Please note: Annie Hart of Au Revoir Simone plays first and is totally good.

By the way, if you would like to go to TOMORROW'S Rogue Wave show at MHOW and don't yet have a ticket you can either get one or enter our contest to win a pair for free. Totally up to you!

Post ____ folk band Horse Feathers (see: Rock Stars, Kill) play American Beauty tonight. "Where/what is that?" you might now be thinking (but your thoughts sound like the voice of Daniel Stern for some reason). I have answers. American Beauty is some place on 30th street in Manhattan you can figure out the rest. You're welcome. It's no problem. My pleasure. You bet. (you can also see them Saturday at Knitting Factory if that seems more chill 2 U).

Peach Kelli Pop (click to read my kind thoughts concerning this good band) + Fern Mayo (click to read my kind thoughts concerning this band 2) lead a good _____punk lineup tonight at Palisades. Going to this show would NOT be the wrong move. So help me blob.

The Spook School is a super solid indie pop band straight outta Scotland and you should go see them at The Gateway tonight (with Bent Shapes & Patio) if you like that sweet guitar jingle jangle. I do! I do! yes! yes! Yes! #jingle #jangle

Other notable Friday shows = Modern Baseball / Sorority Noise / Pinegrove at The Wonder Bar + Dead Meadow at Saint Vitus + X Ambassadors at Terminal 5 + U.S. Girls at Baby's All Right + Comedy Bang! Bang! Live! at Gramercy Theatre + Plants and Animals at Rough Trade

Saturday - May 14, 2016 A.D.

Animal Collective play Starland Ballroom. You'd travel to Sayreville, NJ to see Animal Collective, wouldn't you? WOULDN'T YOU?!? Please note: Sayreville, NJ is a 50 minute car ride from NYC (in current traffic which, as of this writing, is NOT rush hour). Anyway, who's up for this?!?!?!

Explosively fun post ____ psych nutjobs King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard play not one (F NO!) but TWO shows tonight (one at Bowery for those who like to rock at a reasonable time & one at Baby's for the freaks who like late) and both come recommended if you're in the mood to take a cosmic trip to the furthest frontiers of your mind…. where the voice of Daniel Stern lives.

Montreal's Land of Talk play their first NYC show in almost six years tonight at Baby's All Right. Not only that but on Sunday night they'll play their first NYC show in almost 24 hours tomorrow at the same place!

Other notable Saturday shows = Yeasayer at Irving Plaza + Dead Stars at Alphaville + Horse Feathers at Knitting Factory + Rogue Wave at Music Hall of Williamsburg + Brooklyn Flea Record Fair
