Written by Patrick McNamara

There are lots of good shows in NYC this weekend!

Again!

Let's talk about them!

Again!

(and then - time allowing - let's talk about how good this intro was if you want to make this intro go viral or whatever you totally have my blessing to do so)

…..on to the good shows!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thursday - April 28, 2016 A.D.

Hardly art!

Hardly starving!

Hardly art!

Hardly garbage!

Portland's The Thermals play Market Hotel and I've been sweatin' these sing-a-long punks since 2002, son! Listen to them play songs from their new album "We Disappear" and hopefully some old jams too. Portland's Summer Cannibals and Philly's Amanda X open. Sick!

The Thurston Moore Group play Rough Trade. He hasn't been a Youth (oh no don't do it) for quite some time but he still sounds super Sonic (ugh he did it).

*speaking of super Sonic.... Supersonic was a shit '90s band for a minute whose one hit went like this "Closing time! One last call for alcohol! And blah blah la la di di dah!" sure you know it and now it'll probably be in your head for a minute I apologize for that but don't blame Thurston Moore he was never in this band

Other notable Thursday shows = WALL & Future Punx at Knockdown Center + Acid Dad & The Yin Yangs at (le) poisson rouge + Mothers at Baby's All Right + New Myths at Berlin + Weird Womb (final show) at Shea Stadium + Basement at Stone Pony + Suuns at Webster Hall Marlin Room

Bob Mould and Ted Leo play Webster Hall. "Together at last!" - says a fan of both Bob Mould and Ted Leo probably somewhere. Two strong post ___ punk ____ pop songwriters in one big place. Solid. Now, I know I've said this before on here but since only 13 of you read this feature anyway I feel it's OK to mention again that this song (written by Mr. Mould) is one of the best rock/pop songs of the last 25 years. That #jingle #jangle tho! It pumps me up.

B Boys ("makin' with the freak freak") play Union Pool. They're good! Read this and I'll tell you more about them than that. Or, just go to this show cold and embrace this chilly post ____ punk HEAT. WALL also plays. They bring the punk fire too.

No Wave legend James Chance (& The Contortions) play Market Hotel and the old punk can still blast it. Best sax of your life.

Other notable Friday shows = Laura Stevenson at Shea Stadium + The Helio Sequence at Baby's All Right + Pharmakon/Container at Market Hotel (late/loud) + Naughty by Nature at Stage 48 + Penguin Prison at Music Hall of Williamsburg + Haybaby at Sunnyvale + Grizzlor at The Grand Victory + What Moon Things at Suburbia

Saturday - April 30, 2016 A.D.

Deerhunter play Webster Hall. They're a good band. But more importantly, I just recently rewatched the 1978 classic film "The Dear Hunter" and I can tell you with great confidence that it still holds up. If you haven't seen it, or it's been awhile, I highly encourage you to check it out.

The WFMU Record Fair is today and tomorrow at the Brooklyn Expo Center in Greenpoint. Go and shop for good shit while also noting that Australian band The Moles (led by Richard Davies) will play a set at 3:30pm (and Fat White Family plays on Sunday).

Japanese Breakfast plays Baby's All Right (w/ SALES and Leapling). This is a great album. Play it. Play it now.

Other notable Saturday shows = Santigold at Hammerstein Ballroom + Penguin Prison at Bowery Ballroom + Basement at Music Hall of Williamsburg + Louis C.K. at New York City Center + No Joy at Saint Vitus + Kristeen Young at Union Pool

Sunday - May 1, 2016 A.D.

Frankie Cosmos plays Market Hotel (w/ eskimeaux) and you can BET the band's latest record "Next Thing" will be on my Best Albums of 2016 A.D. list (along with that Japanese Breakfast album I just mentioned) assuming I remember to make that list. Last year I totally forgot. Oops. Firing myself from this music blob immediately.

Fraternal Twin play Shea Stadium. I recently said nice things about this band because they're good. Nobody asked me to or anything. I just did it.

And Pearl Jam play MSG. Do you think they really used to give each other group high fives before shows? I bet they totally did.

Other notable Sunday shows = WFMU Record Fair + Shellshag at Aviv
