Fan-Tan hits us where it hurts. - Oh My Rockness

Band We Like

Fan-Tan hits us where it hurts.

June 22, 2009
We guess we're into totally epic synth pop lately, because Fan-Tan's big and sprawling melodies are hitting us kind of right. Listening to this, we really wish we were in a massive rainstorm and there was a camera shooting down on us from a crane, because then we could outstretch our hands and lift them high to heavens while shouting a roar that's equal parts joy and pain. That's what Fan-Tan makes us want to do.

This Brooklyn (by way of Chapel Hill) band must have grand ambitions with verses as "shimmering" and choruses as "rousing" and bridges as "beautiful" as these (quotes courtesy of Zagat -- not really). It's all so emotional.

As for other band comparisons, we don't know; Arcade Fire? Cloud Cult? Oh, we have another one. Sometimes when we listen to singer Ryan Lee's vocals, we think Dave Matthews. But we said the same thing about that singer in The Kingdom, so obviously this Dave Matthews association is our problem, not Fan-Tan's.

This is epic, man. Epic. Oh, and if you know anyone who knows anyone with a camera and a crane, let us know. We really want to shoot that scene.
