This is a really good week for shows. I know I say this often. But this time I mean it even more than all the times I've ever meant it.

So sit back, relax, and let's get ready to consider good bands - not bad - because everything is 100% more chill that way.

3-2-1.

The Best.

Shows.

This Week!

Thursday - May 21st, 2015 A.D.

Krill headline Palisades (with Big Ups + Warehouse) and if you like solid PUNK I'm going to go out on a limb and say you should really go to this, but if my recommendation turns out wrong for you I'm not going to jump off the branch or anything. You're in charge of the musical goodness you decide to see. I merely make suggestions while hanging out in trees. It's what I'm into. We all have our things.

Jamie Lidell plays Brooklyn Bridge Park and you can see his soulful sounds without paying anybody any money because this show is free - majestic urban vistas included in the price of nothing.

Speaking of free, please check out The Rockness (that's us) Guide to Free Summer Shows because it's awesome and we spent a lot of solid data entry time putting it together for you. We do all this listing shit by hand, don't you know. No robots, feeds, or data dumps required - since 2004.

Geographer play Music Hall of Williamsburg and while I don't know much about Geography I do know that one and one is two and that Sam Cooke was the shit. Hope this description helps!

Other notable shows = Courtney Barnett at Bowery Ballroom + TV on the Radio at Terminal 5 + B-52s at Irving Plaza + DJ Mr. Twin Sister (free) at Baby's All Right

Priests + Greys lead a solid FREE punk lineup at Brooklyn Night Bazaar. It sucks that venue is losing their space soon. It was a nice space. Hopefully they'll find their footing somewhere else - preferably a hood that's not Williamsburg - because Williamsburg fucking ________. Pardon my Mad Lib.

The Rentals play Music Hall of Williamsburg (please don't shout out Weezer requests) and, not to brag, but I'm pretty sure this classic pop song is about me. Hope to see you there! Love, Patrick.

Dan Deacon plays Warsaw. I've said it before and, since nobody really reads this thing, I'll say it again, maybe in all caps this time: IT IS VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE NOT TO HAVE A FUN TIME AT A DAN DEACON SHOW. I mean, just watch this shaky video below. Doesn't it make you glow? If you go, be ready to dance. No cowards, please. Prince Rama opens.

Other notable shows = Face to Face at Bowery Ballroom + A-Trak and friends at Bethel Woods Center + Red Baraat at Subrosa + Chastity Belt at Rough Trade + Bambara at Palisades + Yonatan Gat and Jerry Paper at Aviv

Damn. This is a GOOD Saturday night!

Parquet Courts play a free show (w/ RSVP - but you know how those go by now) at House of Vans tonight and I'm totally going because Parquet Courts rule and not because it's free. I'd pay money to see this band. I mean, I'm not going to. But I would. And you can take that claim all the way to the BANK.

Perfect Pussy headline one of the final free shows at Brooklyn Night Bazaar as we know it (also playing: Big Ups + Vulture Shit + Nine of Swords + Nonsense). Go if you like not paying money to see bands that totally 100% do not suck in any way, shape, form, function. Also, if Nardwuar wants to mine my musical past and give me thoughtful gifts I'm totally 100% cool with that. Let's see him pick up on my John Denver obsession.

Melt Banana play Saint Vitus (with Couch Slut + Hot Nerds) and they're just Japanese noise rock LEGENDS, that's all. Bring earplugs and the expectation of catharsis through decibel-induced destruction and nobody gets hurt.

Pixies and TV on the Radio play Stone Pony. I've heard good things.

Other notable shows = Boys Noize at Webster Hall + Ben Browning of Cut Copy at Cameo + Juan Waters at Cake Shop (10th anniversary party) + Face to Face at Bowery Ballroom + Porter Robinson and friends at Bethel Woods Center

Face to Face play Bowery Ballroom and this song is now 20 years old but I still listen to it sometimes. Thanks a lot. You guys have been so good this week.

Other notable shows = Amazon Prime + Hulu Plus + HBOGO + UFO + OH NO + HELLO + GOODBYE

Happy Memorial Day! It's all white pants from here on out! White Pants FOREVAAAAAA!

Computer Magic and Heavenly Beat lead a solid free show lineup at (the new) Riis Park Beach Bazaar (brought to you by the Brooklyn Night Bazaar peeps) out in the Rockaways today. They have several free summer shows going on there this summer and I'm going to attend at least a few of them even though I'm not the best swimmer. I can't get the breathing right. Good thing breathing is not that important.
