Happy week after SXSW. And that's the last of the mentions for a long time. Whew. We did it.

I thought we'd spend a few minutes together discussing good shows happening right here in NYC this week (and even a couple in New Jersey and Long Island too - WOW! RARE! MINT!). If that sounds like a chill time we're gonna get along just fine.

As always, please remember to take this dynamic digital article very seriously because there's nothing funnee about the World Wide Live Music Industry.

Thursday - March 26th, 2015 A.D.

Torche+ Nothing + Wrong play Saint Vitus and how do you solve the problem of three good bands? But according to the strict code I blob by I can only post a video for one of them. So here's a song that I have been playing pretty much non-stop all winter. That guitar crunch, though.

Brooklyn's Big Ups play Aviv and I love those fucking punks. Let's not ruin it by writing more words concerning this matter.

Underrated Parisian producer/remixer/DJ/electronic pop hero/ Anoraak plays with a full band at Verboten tonight. The following song is an old remix of College but it's a REAL good one. I've listened to this one hundreds of times over the years. Hundreds.

Neil Diamond plays Barclays and I've always wanted to like Neil Diamond more than I do. I get it, I really do, and I feel like I'm sooooo close on this but I just can't quite get myself over to his side of the line. Currently listening to Neil Diamond.

Other notable shows = Max Richter at (le) poisson rouge + Rivergazer at Knitting Factory + Such Hounds at Union Pool + Free Cake For Every Creature at Shea Stadium + Shakey Graves at Irving Plaza + Cancer Bats at Cake Shop

There's a really fine and totally free show tonight at Brooklyn Night Bazaar. I will tell you the bands that are playing it now. Teen Suicide + LVL UP + Amanda X + Crying + Flagland + Washer. Careful readers will notice all but one of those bands are linked to profiles I wrote that concerns their respective goodness. Please note. This doesn't mean I don't like Teen Suicide (not linked) it just means I just haven't slung any kind words about them….. yet. But I will. Goddamn it, I will. So help me blob.

The Get Up Kids + PUP + Restorations play the Stone Pony in New Jersey and tomorrow at The Paramount on Long Island. This good tour flirts with NYC but can't quite commit. Such teases, the lot of them. Because of my blob code I can only post one video even though all three of these bands are good so I'm gonna have to respect my aging emo elders and pick this one.

British alt-psych-crunch-pop-indie-gazers (boom) Swervedriver play Music Hall of Williamsburg and they're legends to some of which I am one. Remember when I saw them open for Smashing Pumpkins in 1993? God, that show ruled so hard. I've been chasing that dragon ever since. Maybe tonight???

Brooklyn's Sannhet play Saint Vitus. I wrote kind words about this loud ass instrumental band not too long ago and since then they've released a new album (“Revisionist") that's brutally beautiful. You can listen to the whole thing right now because I'm such a cool guy and sourced it for you. Come for the noise - stay for the pretty melodies.

Other notable shows = Patti Smith at (le) poisson rouge + La Dispute at Webster Hall + Shakey Graves at Warsaw + Jon Spencer Blues Explosion at The Point + Har Mar Superstar at Knitting Factory + Tobias Jesso Jr. at Baby's All Right + Bob's Burgers Live at The Bell House

Another fine totally free show at Brooklyn Night Bazaar tonight. That's two good ones in two nights at that place, for any of you who may have misplaced your notes. I will tell you the lineup now. Honeyblood + Cassie Ramone + Mannequin Pussy + Aye Nako + Fat Creeps. Not. Bad.

Keith Thornton aka Kool Keith aka Dr. Octagon (aka Doctor Butcher for your ______ ) aka Dr. Dooom aka Black Elvis aka Mr. Nogatco aka Tashan Dorrsett debuts in new live band called Lucky Bears Foot at Joe's Pub (of all places) tonight. One time I saw Kool Keith at a show that he was like 3 hours late for, but he made up for it by passing out chicken and juice boxes to all of us. You do you, Keith. It's your journey, man.

Lieutenant is the brand new band of Foo Fighting former Sunny Day Real Estater Nate Mendel and they sound nothing like those two bands. You can read more words about this sunshine pop situation if you wanna (Foo Fighter fans not encouraged to click that) and you can also see this band at Mercury Lounge tonight.

Deerhoof (I wrote that profile almost 11 years ago) and Perfect Pussy and Zula play Webster Hall - Marlin Room. You're gonna like the way this sounds - I guarantee it.*

*guarantee not a guarantee if you don't like punk, punk

Other notable shows = Bjork at City Center + Horse Feathers at Bowery Ballroom + Hannibal Buress at The Wellmont + The Get Up Kids at The Paramount + Monogold at Silent Barn + Cancer Bats at Saint Vitus + Action Bronson at Rough Trade + Kevin Devine and The Goddamn Band at (le) poisson rouge

New Jersey's Vasudeva open the action at Knitting Factory and they make super sweet instrumental math rock. I really like this band and therefore feel strongly and that you should like them too. Oh, yeah. Headliner Lite came all the way from Japan to play for you too. NBD.

Hazy lo-fi teenage Spanish punk band, Mourn (one of Captured Tracks newest additions) play Baby's All Right and this is their very first ever American show and tour. So consider going now so you can maybe someday say you saw them when. EZTV also play (I totally wrote kind words about them before - click that link if you don't believe me).

Other notable shows = They Might Be Giants at Music Hall of Williamsburg
