David Karsten Daniels throws them tales around. - Oh My Rockness

David Karsten Daniels throws them tales around.

January 12, 2009
Oregon's (by way of Chapel Hill) David Karsten Daniels is a southern troubadour creating laid-back folk that sounds similar to Elvis Perkins, M. Ward and Will Oldham. Daniels has been home recording his lo-fi heart-weary tales for years with help from whatever noise makers he could find lying around (coins, pencils, etc...).

But on his latest album, Sharp Teeth, he has moved back a step from those eccentrically scattered blips in favor of a more traditional instrumentation and approach to songwriting. Now, he relies a whole lot on his gently-plucked acoustic guitar and cracking tenor. But D.K.D. also throws in some horns, strings and plenty of musical/lyrical nods to Dixieland and Gospel to keep these songs from turning into slow-core (shudder!).

If you like songs about a guy trying to figure out if Jesus or the devil is knockin' on his door, David Karsten Daniels is the songwriter for you. Check out his most recent release, Sharp Teeth!
