Crystal Castles to play two New Year's Eve shows: one late, one super late!

There is no better way to ring in 2009 than with a mighty display of intense light, and rapid-fire colors, and a barrage of loud sound than...fireworks. But if you happen to be indoors this New Year's Eve, there's no better subsitute for fireworks than seeing Crystal Castles rock it live. They've got everything fireworks have, but probably with a better beat. Crystal Castles are playing two shows at Music Hall of Williamsburg (one late, one super late).
Crystal Castles are a thrash duo that throws down some serious data-dance-rock jams. This furiously fun music is lo-fi, decidedly distorted, and entirely electrical. In other words, it all sounds like the soundtrack to most of those Atari 2600 games.
Like many electro duos (Simian Mobile Disco, Digitalism, Justice etc.), these guys first got noticed via their remix work (they've torn down and done up songs for Bloc Party and their pals Klaxons), but have since taken off on their own. After all, if you really love a remixer, you set them free.
Some naysayers might say these two rely too much on smoke-and-mirrors. Buried beneath the crazy tech effects and light tricks, what would you have? Well, who cares! You're at a show, not sitting in your living room studying the intricacies of their song structure. These songs aren't going to rival McCartney/Lennon, but they will make 2009 start just a bit more on the bright side.
