We like Longwave again. - Oh My Rockness

Band We Like

We like Longwave again.

December 8, 2008
Ok, we know what you're thinking: Longwave?! You mean that one "Brooklyn band" that was part of all those early-aughts "Brooklyn bands" (like Stellastarr* and The Bravery etc.) that the major labels were all desperately hoping could follow the newfound global success of Interpol and The Strokes and Yeah Yeah Yeahs? Yes, that Longwave.

That was a strange time for indie rock, and you too probably had a brief Longwave phase circa 2002. Why not? They put out that very nice record The Strangest Things for RCA and played a lot of bigger, sold-out shows that rocked pretty well. But then, shortly thereafter, the band seemed to disappear and everyone just kind of forgot about them. Another fad for the indie rock history books, I guess.

But wait. Hold your ponies, because Longwave is BACK. I just heard their new record (on the Original Signal record label... who?) and it's really good! I'm serious! Think big shoegaze rock with lots of guitar hooks and really good vocals. Why are you looking at me skeptically? I mean, what more can you ask for in your four-minute pop songs? Sure, the record's probably not going to change the world, but neither will you or I. So give it a spin and tell me you don't get the urge to see Longwave play again. Anyway, these guys get my very early vote for Comeback Band of the Millennium.
