((The Muggabears)) Band Profile and Upcoming New York City Concerts - Oh My Rockness

Brooklyn's The Muggabears rock a sound that's a whole lot like the sound of influential indie bands from the glory years past. Singer Travis Johnson seems to alternate his timbre to channel either Stephen Malkmus or Thurston Moore, depending on the mood the song requires.

And the trio's angular-but-not-too-angular guitar rock certainly sounds like more laid-back Pixies which, of course, are kind of what Pavement sounded like. These are all obviously very good bands to take influence from. If you're going to sound like somebody (and everyone does), it might as well be the Big Three, right?

The Muggabears don't pull many tricks. They have melodically rocking songs that will make you pine for those salad years when everyone wore t-shirts, jeans and converse to shows. Oh wait. Regardless, this is a good band.
