((The Jim Yoshii Pile-Up)) Band Profile and Upcoming New York City Concerts - Oh My Rockness

The Jim Yoshii Pile-Up

Oakland's The Jim Yoshii Pile-Up play heartbreaking, fragile songs from a guy who appears to be dying inside. And they're just so easy to hum along to! These highly accessible songs about desperation, chaos and melancholy can be likened to Bedhead meets Xiu Xiu meets The Mountain Goats.

What's instantly noticeable when you first listen to this band is the strength of Paul Gonzenbach's vocals. He sings his heart out (almost literally) on these mostly ballad tracks, which can toe the line between heartfelt and just plain affected. The band is at its best when they can reign in their theatrics and self-awareness, and instead focus on intimate songs played by pretty guitars and led by a guy with a really good voice. If you listen too hard, they may get you down. But whoever said music is supposed to be cheery, anyway?
