((Macha)) Band Profile and Upcoming New York City Concerts - Oh My Rockness

Multi-instrumentalists Macha get all crazy-like when they play songs for the kids. They're into hammered dulcimers, vibraphones, gongs and tons of other nontraditional instruments to create what can only be described as "Macha songs."You simply can't define them.

Shunning traditional Western sounds in favor of the music from far away lands, they are perhaps the only indie rock band that strives to recreate Indonesian sounds and tempos. One would think all their influences and inspirations would make their songs unfocused or muddled. But Macha knows when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em. They never let their aspirations go higher than their abilities.

Their songs ring with precision and clarity. It's honorable that these guys think outside of a Western framework. After all, there's a lot of world out there beyond the East Village.
