((Clinic)) Band Profile and Upcoming New York City Concerts - Oh My Rockness

Liverpool's Clinic have always had an aura of mystery and mischievousness attached to them, partly because their recordings sound like they were made in the Bat Cave. But one thing is sure, Clinic are entirely mesmerizing.

Brooding and hypnotic, it has never been easy to pinpoint the band's sound. Most often, they are compared to post-Ok Computer Radiohead, yet that tag does not give justice to the diversity of their sound.

Their latest album, Winchester Cathedral, marked a decisive shift for the band. Gone are most of their early art-punk garage sounds in favor of even more experimentation. Now they rely as much on the clarinet and piano as they do on their unmistakable surf guitar sound. Even the vocals of Abe Blackburn seem like an afterthought to the abstract orchestration. Clinic is eerie, creepy and striving for a sound that's more. They are still discovering and are perhaps still a work in progress. But then again, the best bands always are.
