((Anna Meredith)) Band Profile and Upcoming New York City Concerts - Oh My Rockness
Written by Patrick McNamara
Anna Meredith is a classical composer/performer from London that just put out one of the most mesmerizing albums I've heard in quite some time. I still can't really wrap my head around it but the more I listen the more I'm into it. What the hell is going on? I don't know. Do I want more? Yes, please!
The album in question is called “Varmints" (released on March 4, 2016 A.D. on Moshi Moshi / PIAS) and its singular soundscapes (made possible by synths and beats and things) will blast your mind on a cosmic journey through space and time. Is it pop? Is it classical? It is both? Is it good? Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes.
Here's the opening track on “Varmints." It's so dope.
Please note: works best if you blast it.
That's a super compelling song, right? But you want more before deciding if you like this? Because you can't quite put your finger on what this even is yet? I knew it! Luckily, I have come prepared for just such a heavily nuanced feeling.
This is the last track on “Varmints." Blast this one too.
Captivating, right? But in a totally different way than the first track? Just imagine the possibilities of all the album tracks in-between!
(I'd post all the tracks but feel it's important for you to do some of this work on your own so you don't feel cheated by your excellent new musical discovery.)
