((Alan Watts)) Band Profile and Upcoming New York City Concerts - Oh My Rockness

"This is the real secret of life -- to be completely engaged with what you are doing in the here and now. And instead of calling it work, realize it is play." - Alan Watts.

Of course, that's Alan Watts the late Zen Buddishm scholar - not Alan Watts the Brooklyn band. But it's a great quote. And maybe this band takes heed of it.

Alan Watts, the band, is a trio comprised of former Impose Magazine editor / Human Resources guy, Jeremy Krinsley. He's joined by Mike Sheffield and Pat Stankard of the band Heaven's Gate. Together, Alan Watts play dark, electronic songs that swerve in and out between cold industrial, steely drone, and squiggly hyperactive dance. No vocals. Just machines. And beats that sometimes take their time to lock you in before leading you straight to the BOOM. To go back to that quote, it certainly seems like these three guys are engaged to me.

Alan Watts should appeal to the stoned and the dethroned - those old souls who believe life is an illusion and embrace the freedom and sadness that comes with that knowledge. Because there is no past. There is no future. There is only the here and now. Wait. I'm getting into Alan Watts, the man, again. Oh well. There are worse off-the-topic subjects.

Alan Watts, the band, should appeal to broken party people who like blighted club thumpers because it helps them mend.
