The
Dears WEBSITE FOR THE DEARS |
|||||||||||
| There's just something about Montreal lately. Our friendly Frenchified city to the North keeps churning out epic bands with, like, fifty members. The Dears only have five members, but it sure sounds like another sprawling collective akin to Godspeed. To call The Dears' music "epic" would be an understatement. This is ominous post-punk concept band stuff, complete with cabaret-style vocals, sinister symphonics, cinematic chamber pop dramatics, and a clear high-concept vision. The Dears are darn spooky (think less like Interpol, more like Black Heart Procession) and should appeal to fans of everyone's favorite Canadian band, Broken Social Scene (yep, another collective). If you like three-minute songs of verse/chorus/verse, then don't go to The Dears' show. This is music for patient people with a tendency to pop pills. |
