| Nick Zinner woke up from a deep slumber and stumbled to his feet. He threw on some tattered rags, walked out of his front door, and took a long journey. A few hours later he found himself at a crossroads. A tumbleweed, gently pushed by the night air, rolled past. Suddenly, in the middle of the crossroads, a mysterious old gentleman appeared. He was wearing all black, right down to the eyeliner. Nick approached this man and said, "Are we are supposed to meet?" The man gave Nick a cunning smile and immediately pulled out an electric Fender guitar from his back pocket. "Here. Take," the man said. Nick stroked the guitar. "I don't know what to say." The man put his finger to his lips. "You will own this instrument. No one will be able to match your skills in all of indie rockdom." Nick took the guitar, his eyes widening with glee. But for a brief moment, he snapped back to reality. "Hey wait a minute. I wasn't born yesterday you know. What's the catch?" The man gave a hearty laugh. "No catch. Except... your soul when you die." Nick thought the proposition over. "It's a deal." The exchange was made and the mysterious man disappeared, his laughter echoing in the wind. Fortunately, Nick had the presence of mind to bring his cell phone. He took it out and dialed. "Karen? It's Nick. Some gnarly shit just happened to me. Huh? What do you mean you know? How could you know?" And the Yeah Yeah Yeahs were born. |
